The Death of Efficiency
Once upon a time in a land filled with abundance a mother sent her daughter to collect eggs from the hen-house. The daughter took her basket and skipped out to gather eggs. She filled her basket with all the eggs and headed back to the house. It only took a moment for the girl to kill effeciency once and for all time. Since that day people fear carrying all of their eggs in one basket.
It’s hard to imagine how many extra trips have been taken... just because she fell and broke all of her eggs. Actually, the family did not starve. There were more eggs the next day.
The point is... diversity automatically eliminates maximum return. When you spread risk, you spread gains.
This raises questions about the need for maximum returns. Fundamentally, it questions the motivation to acquire returns at all.
