My Knives - #05 Raptor Necker
Hey Steemians,
I just finished this cute little necker and I've thought why not share it. I have a decent documentation of the process from start to finish - so here it goes.
It all started a month or so ago when Bill (no that's not his name) contacted me via Gram because he was interested in buying this little fellow.
It was a necker I did a few years ago in Sanmai technique. It wasn't really a serious build, I was just playing around with forge welding and I've managed to weld this little piece together. It was not enough for a serious knife so I kinda played around with what little steel I had.
The result was a nice looking necker, cute but not really good enough for selling it. I did like the design and wanted to do a real knife using this, let's call it a prototype - but I never got around to it.
In comes Bill, he really likes it and wants to buy it.
There's no way that I would sell a knife that wasn't done right, so I've offered to build him a new one.
I did play around with the design a bit and I've refined some rough spots.
I did it in 1095 steel and I've used linen micarta with fibreglass pins and a stainless lanyard whole. And to mimic the Sanmai look a bit I did the hamon.
A blank cut out with paper stencil still on
Just after the hea-treatment
Rough grind with 60 grit
Somewhere half-way, I think it's 220 grit
Final polish with metla-polishing paste
Preping the scales
Everything glued together
Scales ready for profiling
And finally, it's done. It just needs a sharpening and my makers mark engraved.
Let me know what you think in the comment section. I would love to hear if you like it.

Well, you know I needed something to get away from the research; the books and the screens... and since I'm not as cute as some ;) vloging wasn't really an option.
So, I became a knife smith.
