Coffee. Non-additive genome-wide association scan reveals a new gene associated with habitual coffee consumption

in #life8 years ago (edited)

I love coffee. I can not imagine what to drink in the morning, if not coffee. Probably a long time, drinking coffee, my body wakes up only with coffee. If I do not drink coffee in the morning, I feel some discomfort. And people like me there are so many.

Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages world-wide and one of the primary sources of caffeine intake.

Coffee is one of the most widely drunk beverages, being second only to water and tea.

It turns out scientists have identified a gene from which coffee consumption depends. It turned out that carriers of the gene variant PDSS2 much less drink this drink. The discovery is reported in the journal Scientific Reports.

According to scientists, this gene reduces the cell's ability to break down caffeine, causing the substance to stay longer in the body. Therefore, to obtain the same effect of the gene carriers need less coffee.

In 2014, scientists sequenced the genome of the coffee tree and found out the origin of the genes encoding the most popular psychotropic drug on the planet - caffeine. These genes have coffee different from those that are responsible for the production of caffeine in tea and cocoa beans, and therefore, have not been received from the common ancestor of all three plants and emerged independently.

I have written an article about how riding a bike at a specific rpm causes changes in the brain. Have a look and if you like it I'd appreciate an upvote.
