Strategies to help you concentrate while working from home

Working from home is beneficial. By working from home, you save time on the automobile or public transportation, spend more time with family, sleep longer, and can wear leggings to work.

These perks can cause distractions and make it hard to focus.

Teleworking methods to improve concentration:

No matter your space, you need a workspace. This place helps you separate work from social or recreation.

You can organise an entire room or simply a portion of your living room, but the key thing is to have a location to put your equipment and start your day.

Set a code with a child, flatmate, or spouse who frequently visits to distract you. Tell your kids that unless it's an emergency, they shouldn't talk to you when you're wearing a headscarf since you're busy.

Either headphones or an office door sign can be the "code". Having a sign that tells your kids, spouse, or housemates not to ask non-urgent questions is crucial.

Maintain positive habits like "to-do" lists when working remotely. Being at home and able to establish your own schedule doesn't mean you should ignore this list, which is crucial for attention and efficiency.

Time management method Pomodoro eliminates distractions that impair attention. You need a timer and to-do list to use it.

Simply start your 25-minute timer and work on your first assignment. Take a 5-minute break when the timer chimes, then work for 25 minutes. Go down your list of tasks until the 4th 25-minute period.

After this, take a 15–30-minute pause. This method will help you focus and work more efficiently by separating your time. To stay motivated, tick off tasks as you finish them.

Working at home defaults to sedentary. Public transit, cycling to work, or lunchtime gym visits help us burn energy throughout the day. So schedule time for exercising during your telework day.

You can walk every morning, run at lunch, bike around the block in the evening, play football with the kids in the yard, practice online pilates, etc. Moving about helps you focus when you're back at the keyboard. Your nights will be more restful too.

For various reasons, everyone gets stuck on a task. Changing your dwelling location may help if you have a laptop. Unplug the computer and sit on the patio, living room, kitchen island, etc. A new environment will likely get you "unstuck."

If you lose focus and waste time on Facebook, you can utilise apps that target "zinternets" time waste.

One is StayFocusd. This Chrome addon lets you limit your site time. The plugin will block Facebook after 45 minutes if you tell it you can use it at work. It's more extreme than the others, but desperate times require desperate methods.
