Sleeping Naked Can Make You Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise
I promise you that this post is not an attempt to get you naked… okay, maybe it is, but you can’t blame a guy for trying.
Science, yes science, bastion of pointy heads and test tubes, has given us this decidedly sexy tidbit… sleeping naked can make you more healthy, more wealthy, and more wise. Seriously.
Let’s look at the ways that sleeping naked can help you.
Get Better Quality Sleep
For you to get great sleep you need to lower your core body temperature by about half a degree. That allows you to get the deep sleep that’s necessary to feel like you’ve rested and to trigger all the good processes that happen when you’re out cold.
Wearing pajamas or a sweatshirt to bed means that you’re trapping that heat which is working against you getting the deep sleep that results in memory consolidation and cell repair.
Clothes also bunch up on you and provide another source of potential discomfort that can wake you up. Who wants that?
Lets Your Body Breathe
All day long you’ve got your body covered like a refrigerator bag. It locks in all your stuff.
Sleeping naked allows your body to air out for a few hours.
For women, Nicole Prause, an Associate Research Scientist at UCLA told Medical Daily, sleeping naked “reduces the ability of bacteria to overwhelm the normal healthy vaginal flora.”
For men, cooler sleeping conditions help to keep your sperm healthy and your reproductive systems functioning normally.
Helps You Lose Weight
The U.S. National Institutes of Health found “that keeping yourself cool while you sleep speeds the body’s metabolism because your body creates more brown fat to keep you warm. Brown fat produces heat by burning calories (300 times more heat than any organ in the body), and this boosts your metabolism all day long to help you lose weight.”
Builds Confidence
Sleeping naked can make you more confident with your own body, and it feels great!
A University of Melbourne study found that confident people are likely to make more money and get promotions over their less-confident counterparts.
Brings You Closer Together
Skin-on-skin contact with your partner releases copious amount of oxytocin, which is the neurotransmitter that makes you feel closer to and more in love with your partner.
And, as a bonus, extra oxytocin also leads to lower blood pressure, and that’s great for your heart.
Other Goodies
Sleeping naked can help you to properly regulate cortisol. If your cortisol levels are too high it can lead to increased anxiety, gaining weight, and craving bad food.
Sleeping naked can help you regulate melatonin and growth hormone levels which control aging and good health.
So, what I’m telling you is that sleeping with clothes on makes you grow old faster. Capiche?
There are so many good reasons to shuck your clothes tonight and just try sleeping naked for a change.
Only 8 percent of Americans sleep naked, so if I can just get a few of you naked and in bed, I’ll be happy— scientifically-speaking, of course.
