The authorities only confirmed one dead and six wounded were taken to the hospital. But the bridge board has not yet begun to be removed, where at least eight cars are crushed, according to police.

The White House spokeswoman said, quoted by Reuters, that President Donald Trump is monitoring the situation. "Our brave lifeguards are working hard to save lives", she added.

Firefighters confirmed they were alerted at 13:30 local time to rescue eight cars that were trapped under the bridge. Juan Perez, head of the Miami-Dade police department, said there were still no confirmed casualty numbers.

The bridge passed over a highway and collapsed into several cars in circulation. The section that fell weighed 950 tons. The bridge should only be ready by 2019, according to the Miami Herald. But it was raised entirely on Saturday morning, which earned it the title of "instant bridge".

The mayor, Carlos Gimenez, has already reacted to the news, from China, and explained to the local CBS, that now it is necessary not to aggravate the situation, in the removal of the debris. He added that this was a new way to make a bridge, with a building made of modules, set up on site and that the investigation of what went wrong will still take some time to draw conclusions.

CNN advances that the bridge was built last Saturday, when all parties were together, on the spot. It cost $ 14.2 million, part of the $ 19.4 million infrastructure fund set up by the US Department of Transportation.

The bridge was built to withstand a Category 5 hurricane, according to construction information. It was supposed to last at least 100 years. The construction company has issued a statement saying it will collaborate with the authorities. And regrets the incident.

It was supposed to last at least 100 years.

It made it 5 days...

Sad news....someone is going to get hung out to dry on this one.

I don't understand how is that even possible, who made the math? How can they fail so miserably?

Let´s see what the investigation reports say about the causes of the incident, but someone needs to get blamed for it.

Indeed, the worst part is that the bridge was only supposed to be ready in 2019...
