I get your point about the frenzied shopping that occurs in the Christmas season.
Ironically enough the depiction of Jesus in religious iconography presents him as not owning much physical stuff!
I have chosen to decentralize my gift giving and spread it throughout the year. People seem so much more happy when they get a gift NOT on their birthday/Christmas etc.

I found your gifting idea very interesting. I, for example, would like as well to have the Christmas present whenever I would need it the most. I do believe that Christmas is more about reflections and sharing attention to the ones that really need it.
