Filipino is among of the races on this planet that has so many (pamahiin - in Filipino) or superstitious belief. Many of our old folks beliefs has been passed from generation to the next generation. Some superstitions has been upgraded and some remain the same. But after all of this time, superstitious beliefs have been increased and now has quite a long list.

Here are some of Filipino superstitious beliefs, and maybe some are also applied in yours too.

  • For the pregnant, don't eat twin banana or your baby will be twins too. (Unless if you like it to be twins).

  • Do not take a bath during Good Fridays. You must be mourning for Jesus is dead. Others considered it a big sacrifice for they loved to take a bath everyday.

  • Don't sweep in the evening, or else the good luck will be sweep outside your house.

  • Don't tell your guest to go away in funerals or the dead will follow them home or cause harm in them to be the next to die.

  • Take off the shoes of the dead in the coffin and you'll hear it's footsteps when it visits you.

  • Do not just pour water outside your house especially when it's already sunset without saying "excuse me there" or else you accidentally pour water on some spirit-being and be cursed.

  • There must be no married of siblings together in a year. If they do shared marriage in one year there's unlucky or maybe one pair of couple might die.

  • If you and your first newborn baby will visit a house for the first time, don't forget to give money or even a penny, to the homeowner. It will give them good luck.

  • If you got wounded during Good Friday it takes long time to heal.

  • If you happen to passed by an anthill, an elf lives there. You must excuse yourself by saying "excuse me there. I'll be passing through." If you don't do this you'll get sick.

  • After eating and you will have to go, turn your plate or else accident will happen

  • Don't stay long or do not stand in the doorway if there's a pregnant woman inside. It will cause her difficulty in giving birth.

  • If the spoon will fall down while eating a girl visitor will come, and if it's a fork a man will visit in your house.

  • Don't put away plates when there's still somebody who is still eating, if he/she is still a single they won't get married anymore.

  • If you dream that your tooth is being extracted, it means that someone from the family is going to die.

  • Before the dead will be buried, be sure that you empty your plate don't leave any food, nor coffee in the cups or the dead will visit you and you'll die.

  • And if you dream of stools or excrement, it means that you'll get rich or have lots of money.

  • If making a coconut oil, do it on Friday so that you can make plenty of oil out of the coconut milk and it will be more effective if you used it on healing purposes.

  • If a child can't talk early go get a lizard tail, burn it and feed some to the child or let him eat a porks penis.

  • A pregnant woman must not look at dead or something bad may happen to the baby.

  • A woman must not wear the wedding gown before the day of marriage or something bad luck will happen to the wedding.

  • If the one who died is a victim of injustice put a chick above its coffin so that the people who done it to him can't rest and sleep. And to assured the dead that justice will be served.

  • A curly person is irritable.

  • Don't point your fingers to the field or mountains or some spirit will follow you. If you did point your finger then bite the one that you use and spit.

  • One who have a mole in the foot always like to go out from home and explore and one with mole in the back is a lazy one.

  • People with teeth's apart from each other is a liar.

  • Don't point your finger in the rainbow if you do, finger will be cut off.

  • Don't sleep with your wet hair you get many white hair then.

These are few of the many Filipino superstitious beliefs that's being gathered from a few people. Every places and regions have their own superstitious beliefs that until now are still being practice. As what they have said, there's no harm in trying and by following it. It's better to be safe than to be sorry. They often forgot that what ever you do all you have to do is to call Him and give your trust in Him and He will do the rest.
