I just turned 35 last month and realized that there are many things that have changed and haven't changed in my life. My hair is still long and wavy and I still laugh out loud shamelessly in public. I'm still that awkward, impatient, impulsive woman-child with a very bad attitude. So, I will take this chance to share some 35 random things I've learned in my 35 years of insignificant existence in the vast universe. Random truths gleaned from experiences in this journey called life.

  1. I learned to just do what's best for me and not to bother explaining, people only hear what they want to hear.

  2. I learned that it is fine to get drunk and wasted - sometimes.

  3. I learned that socks disappear and reappear when you least expect it.

  4. I learned that anywhere you go, people are so full of themselves.

  5. I learned that anywhere you go, people are not so different.

  6. I learned to be myself with no apologies.

  7. I learned that I can't win arguing with police officers or anyone in authority.

  8. I learned that keeping an open mind is hard as you get older just as keeping a consistent waistline.

  9. I learned that true friends might apologize in public for my misbehavior.

  10. I learned that it is fine to live alone.

  11. I learned that travel is overrated.

  12. I learned to always bring a sleeping bag when trekking in the mountains.

  13. I learned it is fine to dance off-beat than not to dance at all.

  14. I learned to let go of toxic people in my life.

  15. I learned that if you don't believe in the morality of the Golden rule, at least try to fake it.

  16. I learned that I bought too many self-help crap books.

  17. I learned that apes are our cousins.

  18. I learned that some people lack empathy and sensitivity, it's in their genes.

  19. I learned that you can't change people but you can teach them lessons.

  20. I learned that it is hard to please people so don't bother.

  21. I learned that it is better to admit that I don't know something than assume that I do.

  22. I learned that great parents can have terrible kids and terrible parents can have great kids.

  23. I learned to treasure friends who've known me for a long time, it is hard to find good ones these days.

  24. l learned to not give people the power to make me unhappy.

  25. I learned that life's simple pleasures make me happy.

  26. I learned not to panic if it's not organic, I've been eating shit foods all my life.

  27. I learned that as I get older, solitude is what I need.

  28. I learned that there's only temporary satisfaction in winning an argument, people hide their contempt.

  29. I learned that it is better to speak my mind than suppress my feelings for a long time.

  30. I learned that it is easy to fall in love than to stay in love.

  31. I learned that it is fine to leave someone who does not like to dress up for Halloween.

  32. I learned not to buy a lot of things that I will not be able to bring while traveling.

  33. I learned that some people are just ignorant, they will never change the way they see or treat you.

  34. I learned that if people can't treat you with respect, don't waste your time with them anymore.

  35. I learned that this is not yet the end of the list.

What x random things you've learned in x years?

Sort:

Saved me some time figuring it out myself.

lol

I learned that I would enjoy reading 35 days of @diabolika describing all the things she's been reflecting on since she's turned 35!

I stopped counting my age at 30, well, technically I stopped counting before I turned 30 because my son was born shortly before my 30th birthday. Once he came into the world, my son took over #1, my wife moved to #2, and I slid into #3. Although, some days I climb back to #2 in a brief trade with my wife for #3.

#28: One of life's lessons that I've learned is that nobody wins an argument. Even the winner loses, unless you are arguing with someone who you don't care about .. but at that point, why did you bother arguing? Or you were probably never really invested in the argument enough to care if you won or lost.

I do like your list though. It inspires me to want to make a daily, weekly, or monthly list like this about the lessons that I learn throughout life. It would be fun to write them down, and see how they change over a lifetime!

Rules are made to be broken and lessons are made to be re-learned 🙂

Thank you.

I learned that it must be fun hanging with you

Awww thanks.

So many things you learnt my favorite one are donot give people power to make you unhappy and it is better to live alone

Those were hard to learn.

I like your random things, i learn too about socks and the first one i must tatoo on me, people always have something to say if you agree or not. so we must live our lives and go on..

l learned to not give people the power to make me unhappy.

I learned that life's simple pleasures make me happy.

24 & 25 are such powerful truths, and one's life is so much happier upon realizing and implementing them...

Great list, @diabolika! Looking forward to 36-70!

Thanks!

Ok stay tuned!

Those random socks... truest statement I have ever read. I didn't even think about it until you mentioned it. That shit happens... all the time!

I felt relieved that I'm not the only one experiencing the most annoying thing in the world - looking for socks. And some random socks reappearing from nowhere, sigh.

I have a random drawer that I put random solo socks. I don't know where its partner is... but somehow! BOOM! Next laundry day, random solo sock finds its partner.

Strange things happen in this mysterious sock universe.

Here lies a wealth of wisdom. If only they taught us all this shit in school; I wonder how much more we might have learned by the time we're into our thirties. But we have to waste half our lives unlearning the bullshit that was force fed to us. Though I guess that's the point...

The fun part of life. Yeah, school is there to let ourselves be programmed so later we could figure out ourselves how to be deprogrammed.

35 years of collecting wisdom and still we are a bit of fools but as yet so smart already ;)

Ive learned that I love some animals way more than most humans.

This was a cool list.

Good post.
