National Chopsticks Day

On the Menu Today

It's National Chopsticks Day, which may explain why I'm craving sushi. Chopsticks, for most of the world, aren't a novelty item tossed in with Asian takeout, and in fact hold the position as the primary dining utensil for a quarter of the world. Chopsticks differ from country to country, though the function is generally the same. In Japan, chopsticks tend to be shorter and pointed at the tip, while Chinese versions are generally longer and blunt at the ends.

What are we going to eat to celebrate? Sushi, of course. This dish varies in shape and contents, and many restaurants in the United States serve a very American version of the quintessential cuisine. I'm sure somebody in the comments will know more about making sushi than I do, so here's a recipe to get you started. Or you can just head to your local spot and leave it to the pros.
