Jedes Jahr ziehen wir als Familie zu Viert in den Wald.
Dort im Wald in der Eifel nah an dem Fischteich, wandern wir neugierig wie Forscher durch die vielen kleinen und großen Tannen.
Every year four of us move into the forest as a family.
There in the forest in the Eifel near the fishpond, we wander curiously like explorers through the many small and large fir trees.
Hier darf jeder seinen eigenen Weihnachtsbaum aussuchen und tut damit noch Gutes, den der Kaufpreis wird komplett an eine gemeinnützige Gesellschaft gespendet.
So wird von der Familie jeder Baum sehr kritisch betrachtet und es wird überlegt, ob er zu dem Platz im Haus passt und diesen gut füllen könnte.
Here everyone can choose their own Christmas tree and do good with it, the purchase price is completely donated to a charitable society.
The family takes a very critical look at each tree and considers whether it matches the space in the house and could fill it well.
Der Bachlauf - The brook
Inmitten des Waldes verläuft ein kleiner Bach der nicht nur sehr idyllisch aussieht sondern auch den Fischteich konstant mit gutem Wasser aus der Eifel versorgt.
In the middle of the forest runs a small stream which not only looks very idyllic but also supplies the fish pond constantly with good water from the Eifel.
Typischerweise werden wir so nach 20-30 Minuten etwas müde und haben bis dahin schon den ein oder anderen Baum in die engere Wahl gezogen.
Eine Pause auf der Bank mit Blick auf den See ist dann natürlich sehr willkommen.
Aber dann wird die Säge ausgepackt und ritscher ratsche ist der Baum abgesägt.
Typically we get a bit tired after 20-30 minutes and have already selected one or the other tree.
A break on the bench with a view of the lake is of course very welcome.
Then the saw is unpacked and the tree is sawn off.
Die Überraschung / A surprise
Auf dem Rückweg finden wir dann,auf einer kleinen Lichtung versteckt, unter einer Tanne das alljährliche Krippenspiel.
On the way back we find the annual crib play hidden under a fir tree in a small clearing.
Die Kinder fangen sich von den dort liegenden Strohhalmen jeweils einen weil sie wissen zurück an der Hütte dort wo der Baum bezahlt wird gibt es für jeden einen kleinen warmen Kakao.
Und das Bild genau dieser Krippe soll die diesjährige Weihnachtspostkarte von Steem für euch sein.
The children catch themselves from the straws lying there each one because they know back at the hut where the tree is paid there is a small warm cocoa for everyone.
