You're not EVERYONE'S CUP OF TEA
I've noticed something amongst aspiring thought leaders, speakers, writers and business leaders.People flood your DMs with messages talking about how amazing you are, but when you get just one person who says something negative about you, you carry that comment in your head for days.
Not everyone will like you and that's just something you'll have to live with. You'll always be a little too much or too little of 'something' for someone, but just enough of 'that thing' to another. Focus on the 'another'.Worrying over those who don't like you is doing your true supporters a disservice.
Stop trying to win people over. It's not a worthwhile chase. You're doing a great job with those who love you already. Don't lose momentum because you want what you cannot have. It's like how we played the relationships game in our younger years.
There's this person who really likes you, laughs at all your jokes and always wants to be around you. Then there's this other person who rarely looks your way, ignores your calls and plays you as less than an option.Predictably, na that one we go wan die put. It's almost like real life politics, and I learned this from Donald Trump - FOCUS ON YOUR BASE.
Donald Trump knows that there's probably nothing he can ever do to win over his opposition, so he doesn't even bother. He spends most of his time around those groups that donated money to his campaign and the ones working round theclock to support him in real life.He knows that CNN will never say anything good about him and it's nothing personal, just politics, so he spends his time with FOX News instead.
Don't dilute your brand with everyone's contribution. Your life is not 'esusu'.Live your strongest truth and cater to those who are touched by it.There's a caveat here of course. If you're actually offensive, then you should change. But if the issue at hand is just at odds with their personal preference, then they can walk on to the next shop.
You're not everyone's cup of tea and that's okay.Focus on those who love what you serve.Spend your time researching, innovating and inventing better flavours of that tea.
Spend time learning and better serving their unique tastes - the right servings of tea, ginger, lemongrass, cinnamon, milk, sweeteners, etc. that keep them pleasantly satisfied. If coffee lovers look at you hatefully, they should know you're not here for them. They can carry their riot to Nescafe's office.Live strong my people.
