The factuality of the principle of change and decay, the reality of the law of thermodynamics

Everything that is visible and tangible must one day pass away. That reality never dawns on us until we grow old.

When we were children, everything around us looked secure. We made plans and dreamt dreams of what we hoped to become in our long stretches of the future. The factuality of the principle of change and decay, the reality of the law of thermodynamics, is that, the law that the stored-up energy in our planet is gradually being used up and may untimely be used up, had no relevance for our immature and innocent minds when we are children.

But when we grow older, we broke up one day to the fact that mortal life is insecure, and is only transient, seen for a whale and then seen no more. These are many examples of this reality in our daily human experiences.

First, let us take the transiency of the individual life. Someone whom we have come to love and who is so close to us dies, and for the first time we face reality of man, too, can pass away. A few years ago when a poplar rich man Adelakin John was reported to have died, someone asked the question, Can’t that man die?’ who uses his money and his influence to ride people and acquired others properties because of his of wealth. But there is transiency to individual life, and so they, too passed away. Thus we agree with William Shakespeare who said in his lines:

“All the World’s a Stage
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances.”

Second, there is the transiency of nations and societies. When we first read about Egypt and its might, Babylon and its beauty and might, Assyria and its unconquerable might, Greece and its literature, its art and its military sagacity; when we read Rome and its worldwide imperial might, they all looked vast, secure and stable. They wielded authority that at first seemed to be beyond the reaches of man to break. But such societies and nations were bound to pass away, too. So, when the tide of destiny was moved by a hand mightier than the hands of men, that tide rose up high and swept those nations out of their past glory or powerful that no man will ever come near or to rise against it.

Third, there is the transiency of the successful generations of men and stars. As we look at the stars each evening, we try to convince ourselves that the stars are definitely eternal. But this assumption is wrong, Dr. Henry Emerson Fosdick, describe the life cycle of stars: some of them in embryo are being born out of whirling nebulae; some are in their fierce and fiery youth, some, like our own sun, are past middle age; and some are growing old and soon will die.

So, the star, too, are temporal, and they will pass away.
The transiency of individuals lives, of nations, and societies, of the successive generations of men, and of the stars lead us to ask whether there is anything that will last at all, or whether everything is a passing shadow, or whether everything is change and decay and destruction.

Is there nothing that has permanence to it? We almost tempted to say that nothing will last forever. The elements will disintegrate in flames, and the earth with all that is in it, will be laid bare’. That is the picture of the transiency of this universe and all that is in it. Won’t you consider helping those who need your help or rendering an assistance to those who need it around you? Remember nothing last forever, earth rotate in its orbit, you never know what tomorrow will bring.
