Back surgery
After a long wait. I finally saw the orthopaedic surgeon. It appears I will need to have my lower back fused to stop any further damage. Let me go back a little. In 2007 I was hit from behind in a four car traffic accident. This set me on a path of chronic back pain and nerve damage that I had only ever heard about. This has changed every aspect of my life. I went from a reasonably healthy and active young man running my own business to an inactive 200kg person on huge amounts of pain meds and nerve meds with type 2 diabetes. In 2014 it all got too much and I decided if anything was going to change I had to start with losing weight. I booked in to have weight loss surgery and in 4 months I had lost 50kg. This allowed me to have my first back surgery and get a small amount of relief. The best part though by this time the diabetes was in remission. I am nearly 4 years out of the weight loss surgery and there is no sign of diabetes. Unfortunately the nerve pain is excruciating at the best of times.
This is the first time a surgeon hasn’t given me some kind of B.S false hope of fixing everything. His goal is to give me stability. His nonjudgmental attitude and genuinely caring nature was so nice it kinda threw me at first, but before this can happen I have to have my pain stimulator removed. So in all it appears I will be undergoing 3 surgeries in hopefully a fairly short space of time. 1st to remove the stimulator 2nd to repair any damage and fuse my lower back and 3rd to replace the nerve stimulator. I knew this was going to be a big year but had no idea it would be like this. The main reason for this post is to bring awareness to the fact that people may look young, strong, and healthy, but it doesn’t mean that the pain they are living with isn’t real. It doesn’t mean they aren’t sick.
