But why is women's day today? Why it is celebrated today?

International Women's Day is celebrated worldwide every year on March 8, and was created as a day of struggle for women's economic, political and social equality.

8 March 1857-s in New York are on strike entered workers textile factory, demanding better working conditions for women. On the same day, in the same place only 51 years later, it came back to strike women. The workers were first detained in the factory, from which they could not get out, and then the fire.
51 years later, again there was a strike of women in the same place. Workers were closed at the factory from which they could not get out, and then the fire broke out, during which 129 women unfortunately lost their lives.

Often on this day give flowers, occasional kind word or gesture - but, once this day meant much more, was a day of fighting, a day out of the patriarchal framework reactionary history that is centuries women treated as second-class citizens.

This day reminds the long struggle of women in which the biggest successes was the introduction of 8-hour working time, equalizing pay for men and women, but also the protection of mothers, and the introduction of maternity leave.

Today, many organizations in the world marked International Women's Day, and some are trying to fight to become a national holiday in which it is not.
