Life Of A Potter In India : Under-Paid And Anonymous

There are some works which has sustained for eons and has been a major source of providing massive employment to the rural as well as urban area. One of them is 'Pottery'.

An art of transforming wet clay into a pot. It is an art because a mass of clay is placed on a moving wheel and then very skillfully designed with hands so as to provide it a desired shape.

Pottery, being an age old prominent handicrafts in India, its roots can be traced back to the earliest of the civilizations. It is a major source of employment for uneducated people mostly residing in the villages across India.

A person should be known for it's work and creativity as he puts all his soul into that work but this statement is not always true in many cases. A diversified country like India is growing rapidly in the technological advancement while leaving behind its core employment providers behind.

One such left out community in India is that of potters. Pottery is an art of molding clay very carefully into a utensil. But after putting so much skill and hard work into this work, Potters in India has lost their recognition. With the advent of plastic made utensils, this community has been forgotten by the people and they are now unemployed or paid too little.

People are now relying on the modern plastic or steel utensils completely abandoning the traditional utensils, sealing the fate of the Potters in India. However, government have made many attempts to encourage people using clay utensils, as they are very cheap and hygenic, but still not many people are recognizing government attempts.

It’s sad to see that potters don’t get the same recognition, respect and remuneration as one should get after putting so much effort into their work. Their hard work is not paying as it should.

That's amazing how they can do that, always wanted to watch someone do that in person.

Well, yeah it is incredible to watch them while they gently design the shape of the utensils. They really got some serious skills. It's a shame that their profession is declining rapidly.
Anyways thanks a lot @norrko

It's unfortunate indeed how our economic infrastructures is pushing us all around the world to make decisions that are detrimental to our reality and ultimately ourselves, like turning to plastic because it's cheap rather than sticking to what is sustainable. Thanks for the post cryptonet
