BY DA LORD DY'IN, BY DA TUNDERIN G, HOW ARE U DOIN YA SON OF A BEEEEEEEE, YOU CANT FOOL YER OL MAN BY DRESSING LIKE THAT, YOUR STILL JUST A NEWFIE IN A CALGARY HAT
THE CALL HOME
30 years ago I came here; Alberta, for a year to make a million and go home. I'm late by 29 years and short about $980 thousand.
Alberta is a hard spot for an honest soul. If I had less care to be decent I would be going home (picture above) in greater style but I let my heart lead me. Alberta is "All head - no heart" (not that kinda head dirty minds).
I have been dreaming of this day since I left but i imagined it different. I had to make the mistake of falling in love with an Albertan woman. Not the first Newfie to do so but I won't choose.
This will be a page right out of the "Notebook". I will build it "proper" down home and wait for her. She will not know and may never know. I may wait forever and never see her again but I will wait...she laid her ring on my nightstand yesterday. That symbol of commitment, now back in the original box and tied neatly with a bow.
I just can not stay here anymore and I have to finish something my grandfather started a lifetime ago.
Just me and my old truck, my kids dirtbike and my laptop. Let's see if I have enough luck to make it 12 thousand KM's trying to get home..should be interesting. Definitely having poutine in Quebec somewhere but otherwise driving straight through..
When I left in 88' I was running away at 16 yrs old with a pregnant girlfriend, an angry drug dealer look'in for me in a bad way, parents and police chasing us and we weren't stopping for nothing! Weird that I have maybe half the courage I did when I was just a shit stain of a lad..
