RE: TRUTH IS A RARE COMMODITY DESPITE THE FREEDOM ENJOYED BY PRINT AND ELECTRONIC MEDIA

in #life7 years ago

Although I don't mean to generalize, there is little to no room for truth for the money-centered media.

As you have already said, "people live for exciting news," and more often than not, the truth is painful and scary. The media can't afford to say the blatant truth because it would take away their audience. As a result, they would alter the story enough to make it more appealing.

Quite sad, but this is precisely what's happening with most. I agree that they should stop distorting the truth and just give us the raw stories. But it's all easier said than done. There's too much political/economic/other issues happening backstage.

I agree with this sentiment wholeheartedly. No matter how left- or right-leaning a media outlet is there is always the need to embellish or sugar-coat the truth in order to continue appealing to their audiences. Always remember, "There are three versions to every story: There's one side's version of what happened, the other side's version of the what happened, and somewhere in the middle is the truth."

Yes, there will always be bias. We find it not only in the media but maybe even with those whom we deal with in day to day living. It's a challenge to be objective , and for me I think it's a call to be more critical and not to just take in everything as it is.

The average person lives for exciting news, but the exciting news usually comes in the form of negativity. The media has given the public an appetite for chaos and misfortune. They offer news of problems and never offer solutions. It's an effective method of conditioning people to just accept the negativity. Each day that negative news persists sets a stronger precedent for more negative news. A vicious cycle...

This is the reality we live in and I don't think we can really do anything about it. More critical minds can discuss about it, but it won't be enough to stop it unless you're a person with just as much influence in the media as those who are currently there (or maybe no one really can...).

As long as there are issues to talk about publicly, we'll never hear the end of this. It'll all be, as you said, a vicious cycle of negativity.

I agree but this approach worsening the problem at hand
