RE: It’s Time to Start Imagining a Post-Police World — Why Abolishing the Police is Not a Crazy Idea

in #life7 years ago

Thank you for this well written and remarkably insightful article. Upvoted at 100% and Re-Steemed...

I find the stats about what percentage of "police work" is enforcement vs actually dealing with inherently evil behavior quite disturbing, but not at all surprising. I have personally been at the receiving end of the "revenooers" all too often, and have many times stepped in to help family members who were being harassed for no good reason.

However, getting the average person to abandon their deeply ingrained belief in "guv'mnt" is a real dilemma...

It might be that the People's deeply ingrained dependence on government would fix itself if deprived of government. No genuine anarchist actually wants chaos and the burning of civilization if they value their life.

The existence of 'authority' robs the individual of moral agency, handing over the decision making process to an external arbiter of what is moral. When this happens the individual is relieved of the personal responsibility for their choices, and morality is replaced by laws dictated by another, fallible, human. The very existence of code enforcers causes a blossoming of immoral and amoral behavior in People who have no way to rectify a personal understanding of moral behavior with the immoral laws and codes with which they've been saddled.

I'm certain you know all this. I just thought it might be good to state where others could see.

"I just thought it might be good to state where others could see."

And you state it so very, very well... Thank you! :D

Thanks for resteeming so that I could see this gem!

It is a gem indeed... You're most welcome!
