GRATITUDE
What to write about? What to write about? I wanted to make this kind of a daily journal but I found that my daily life is so repetitive! I can’t be writing about me going to the market on 1,3,5, preparing meals, watching documentaries and movies, etc. Even I’d unfollow me!
Maybe I could write about my feelings, but that could sometimes be pretty down 😟 BUT we can find the positive to a negative situation, can’t we? That’s what @reconstitution and I have been doing since 7 November, 2016!
He sometimes comes to my room, before bedtime, to have a chat. On the night of 6th November, 2016 he came to me with an idea. Could we start a daily gratitude journal on WhatsApp? Each day we were to write at least three things that we were grateful for. My first reaction was “What? THREE?” I thought it was impossible. But he showed me a way.
When you don’t have anything to be grateful for turn a normal or negative situation into a positive outcome. Gradually but surely I got the hang of it. For example, when someone tells me off instead of arguing I keep my cool (which isn’t usually the case 😅). I’m grateful that I kept my cool because that prevented more friction and kept the peace. Or, we had lots of leftovers from last night so I only have to cook rice and one veg dish 😂 Simple, right?
So that night I said ok, let’s start tomorrow. He was taken aback. So fast?, he asked. Why not? What are we waiting for? Let’s not procrastinate! It was pretty tough at first but now we sometimes have quite a few points to be grateful for. I had seven last night ✌🏻 And we sometimes add photos.
Our journal can sometimes be quite lengthy. We share our feelings and experiences and that has gotten us closer. We know what the other is going through and are more patient of our sometimes awkward behavior. I think everyone should find someone to start a gratitude journal with. It really has a positive effect.
I’m grateful to Russell aka @reconstitution for proposing this journal
I’m grateful that we’re still going strong
I’m grateful we’ve become closer ❤️
i’m grateful we went to Malaysia’s 1st zero-waste event together
Very proud of you! I know it's definitely not been easy but you commited and are better off because of it :)
Thanks ❤️
Yeah, our gratitude journal rule was that we couldn't repeat our gratitudes! You were so worried about that! I think the combo of "3 points a day" and the "no repeats" really got to you! >P<
And, yess! We have grown sooo freaking much closer :) I thought I'd introduce this exercise to you so that "mom would be less negative" -- But I didn't realize I was soo negative too, and that this exercise would transform the both of us and our relationship :O :D
It was hard to keep up the exercise on some days. Really thanks for helping me stick to this practice! :D <3
Thanks for the idea that got us here 😊❤️
