Three years ago, my sister owned this car. But she sold it after it continued to get vandalized.

She has been a fan of The Dukes of Hazzard ever since it aired in the early 1980's. She loves the General Lee, which is the 1969 Dodge Charger featured in every episode. She has gone to several Dukes fan meetups, and has met the cast from the original show. She owns many memorabilia items, and even has an image of the General Lee tattooed across her back! Her love for that car stemmed from the fact that my dad owned a 1968 Charger R/T, which he sold before I was born.

She and her ex-husband, Dave, actually bought this 2010 Dodge Challenger together. (I know, that seems a bit strange, but they made better friends than husband and wife.) They took turns driving it, and on one of the weekends she was using it, she drove it here to Iowa. I was able to give it a test drive. 400 horsepower took it to 130 miles per hour rather quickly before I backed off the accelerator!

What's unfortunate is that many people saw the Confederate flag on the roof as a declaration of racial hate and anti-patriotism.

The "stars and bars" may have represented those ideas 150 years ago, but my family does not practice either of them. The past is in history books.

However, my sister works in an urban area with heavy influence from Chicago. People there are of a different mindset. While parked at her job on the University of Illinois campus, the car received several deep scratches, and even a note on the windshield calling her a racist. Dave had similar incidents. They grew tired of the harassment, and reluctantly sold the car.

In conclusion, I would like to share that having a Confederate, or "Rebel" flag isn't always an indication of racism or anti-patriotism.

I have a large Confederate Flag obscured in our garage. Why? Because I am a country boy at heart. (And because it was cheap and cool!) I am not a racist. I would sit around a campfire and share a beer and a conversation with any person, regardless of their skin color.

I love my country, and am proud to live here. (That doesn't mean I support all the decisions my government makes.) But this is my home, and I love it. My Confederate flag may hang in our garage, but Old Glory, the American flag, waves proudly on our front porch.

I also loved the Dukes of Hazzard ! And watched it every week ! Those boys were something else ! Those people are the ones who are racist for vandalizing the flag in the first place ! But its ok for them to be racist ! Im so tired about all of it ! Why cant we all just love each other and get along in this world !? 👍🇨🇦

That's how God intended us to live -- loving each other and treating one another like brothers and sisters.

Thats so true ! When is the world going to wake up and realize this ! ? 👍

I have flown an 8 foot Confederate Flag since I moved to Missouri in 2009. It comes down tomorrow though !!

Nothing to do with race, btw.. This is the Stars and Bars

That is a Confederate Battle Flag and it had nothing to do with race with them Duke boys either. It was all about the revenuers coming down into their county stealing money from good hard working people by force.

People use to know that the IRS is private collections arm of a Private Bank forced on the people after the republic fell. Now days not so much..

Awesome! I moved to Missouri in 2008 with my wife. But we moved back to Iowa in 2013.

Yeah there is a lot of Yankees here lol

I am from Texas but retired here in 09. The cooler weather suits me but I do miss Texas :)

I like cooler weather, too. Which is part of the reason I moved back to Iowa.

Why take it down tomorrow?

It's customary to give the new Commander the chance to restore the Republic.
