Our Trip to the Pet Store, Why We Feel the Need to Dominate Nature.
You cannot tell in the picture but each bird has a numbered tag on its foot.
I have spent a lot of time reflecting on why people reject nature the way they do. To me it seems like there was a trust that was broken at the beginning of time creating a wound that never healed. People do not trust nature and shield themselves as best they can. We like to pretend that the control is ours and the world around us is a puppet to manipulate. The "reality" could not be farther from that and might be why we create the illusion to begin with.
These snakes were actively trying to escape out the top by climbing the temperature monitor. It did not take much to realize their actions were intentional and they had desires get out. Don't get my wrong, I am not too concerned with the "feelings" of snakes but their situation was fundamentally unnatural. I would much rather they be hunting mice in the wild than cramped in a glass box.
I do not know a lot about turtles and someone can chime in here. This one was in the same spot the whole time we were there and did not move. Do turtles sleep under water or is this one super dead?
Let me know what you think in the comments!
Ooof, poor little guys.
Not my karma thought right?
It's all your karma. 😉
What do those animals reflect about your inner world? Bum bum BUM!!!
I am a victim... 😶

I'm not upvoting your poo.
Ah yes, this is something of mine that I have been shifting philosophizes on . I used to have pets. Dogs and cats growing up, fish, amphibians and even a rabbit. My parents and sisters still have dogs and just a couple years ago I rescued a cat (or at least I thought as a few months later he went out and never came back).
I used to think pets were a fair trade, I feed and house you and you don't have to worry about getting eaten by a predator. Or when 'owning' a predatory animal, your life is easier since food is abundant and you're kept warm. Sure dogs, cats and from recent experiences even rabbits show affection but does that justify 'owning' them.
My recent stances on this have shifted, that it is indeed just mankind looking to satisfy his sense of dominance on 'lesser' beings. I have always believed animals to have a conscious and displaying unique 'personalities' but my ego clouded my view of animals having independence. After trying to get down to the bottom of why humans beings are no more of a commodity to the small group of controlling elites. I have come to realize we are no more than just pets/chattle to them. So with this line of thinking my stance has shifted, I don't condemn pet owners for this but I don't think I will ever personally own another pet.
Yes, it is up to the individual. When it comes to cars and dogs I am more lenient than in regards to the birds and reptiles. There were some rescue kittens there and they seemed fine with their situation and enjoyed the pets they got through these holes in the window. Dogs have also had a long running relationship with humans and fair well being companions. The birds with the numbered tags on their feet and clipped wings is what motivated my post, along with the snakes trying to escape.
The thing about dogs and cats the more I think about it is how we made them that way via control over time. They have to be trained to behave the way we want them to in our presence/home. It is a confusing issue as right or wrong when an animal shows affection to touch. It seems to tell us controlling for love is an alright thing to do. However, would we do that to a fellow humans? Some people do and is it right? So what about the animals? It does create a conflict of consciousness for me personally albeit only recently.
Interesting fact about the Cow never knew that.
The history of dogs and humans goes a lot deeper than one would assume. I would go as far as to even say one would not have made it without the other. Cats probably not so much, you can see that from how they are total jerks. I came across something that mentioned the scarcity of food during the ice age forced the collaboration. Had to do with dogs being able to track and exhaust the few large remaining animals but not being able to kill them, thus needing humans to finish the job.
