Thanks for sharing this openly. Are you aware of the 'rat park' studies done on addiction and feeling isolated? Summary: rats that weren't isolated and had a community, rejected addiction. When already addicted rats were given community, they chose to break their addiction and go through withdrawal together.

i can't believe that this article was so under rated. this is truly one of the better pieces i have seen you write. it comes from the gut and gives a birds eye view for the layman. i will differ from you in the respect that i dont feel that addiction stems from feeling like one is not enough, tho certainly that is at the core. i share many of these feelings yet was never tempted by anything stronger than a sugar addiction, tho the emotional side is true. so perhaps there are various degrees of addiction. thanks for sharing this.
