Amazon's Drones can Self-Destruct: An Investigation into the Ethics of Military Technology!
Amazon have it mandatory for their drones to have the ability to self-destruct in the case of an emergency!
How about self destructing onto targeted people? The shrapnel from a drone explosion must hurt! Possibly lethal!

Who patented drones Programmed With Self-Destruct?
Amazon has just been granted patent number 9,828,097 for drone technology that allows the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to self-destruct in a sequence in the event of a catastrophic failure. (LINK)
Just yesterday, Amazon patented this technology? Does Amazon want to sell their drones to the military?
No...
Control the Drones
A film-maker or drone enthusiast who isn't too financially troubled most likely has a drone these days.
These casual drone flyers do not have self-destructing drones.
Think of it like this:
If I was a totalitarian government who wanted to control it's citizens I would:
Step 1: Create a military technology which is allowed to operate in a civilian area.
Step 2: Convince civilians that the military technology is useful for them (Amazon delivery drones).
Step 3: Outlaw civilians from using the technology themselves.
Step 4: Threaten citizens with the guns and implosive possibilities of this tech if they are not submissive.
Voila, you have created a nanny state system which can easily create obedient followers because they can be "taken-out" easily and effectively.
Everytime you get an Amazon delivery
You will be terrified
Once the military damages a citizen they could blame it on a glitch!
I would avoid buying things off Amazon, I much prefer peer-peer technologies and methods of exchange, don't let the bots get between us and vital supplies like food & water!

That would be painful for the owner like me to own a self-destruct drone. Ouch! My pocket :((

These days everything self-destructs. From light bulbs to smart phones. Things are engineered to last a short amount of time. Self-destruct only would need to bi-pass the voltage regulator in order to blow the resistors. Not deserving of a patent at all.
