The Evil of Facebook on our Limbic System (And the Cure We Need!)

in #life6 years ago (edited)

We're self conscious.

We're aware of our limitations, so therefore we have fragility in our life. It's life that is the thing we have a problem with so finding a solution gives us meaning.

That's why we should strive to do things that we deem as worth while, because it is like the hard work cure for having a fragile life.

It's create something sturdy and solid so you can have something to lean on.

So far we have established that humans live and are doomed to suffering and because of this suffering we have a position experience so humans can also experience meaning.

Whats more, humans have in us the capacity for knowledge of good and evil.

And we live in a society where status and the look of well-doing is often so much more valued then peoples actual well being. But is this society something that we built, or is it an effect of our brain wiring.

Take for the example lobsters. Lobsters exists in dominance hierarchy which limits resources and mating partners to the ones who aggressively fights for it. Lobsters can actually get depressed when they loose a fight. Scientists have tried using anti-depressants on lobster with great success.

What this can tell us about serotonin receptors and dominance hierarchies are that we are deeply aware and worried about what other people think and how they view us.

This is why we need to get off Facebook!

So many of us are glued to our phones checking every minute what someone has said or liked about us, but that us isn't even the real us.

It's just something we've crafted so that we can get more notification cocaine pings for our serotonin receptors.

We gotta stop with the updates, the text, and continue to control our emotional status.

Start thinking about what you send out into the ether of the net. Write poetry, message someone you care about them. Facebook has fucked with out limbic system so much that the only thing we can do is use our intention and good will to others to lift each other up one serotonin brain receptor at a time.

I hope you'll join me this week in making the effort to make online life a little better with words of encouragement that we can all send around to each other.
