What Hides Behind Smile?

Smiles are clinically proven to brighten a person's day or if they interact with a pleasant person who smiles a lot it can make you feel better. But, smiles can be fake or a front the person is putting on to make themselves feel better or mask their true feelings.

Feelings to include:

  • Sadness
  • Depression (severe or moderate, etc.)
  • Anger
  • Pain

Just because someone is smiling doesn't mean they are truly happy. It simply means they're "putting their fake face on." This is another of my posts explaining why you shouldn't ASS U ME about anyone.

CONVERSELY, it could mean they are happy, if so good for them. Thoughts?

Indeed and that’s why it’s so important to be more understanding and empathetic! You don’t know what other people are going through or how what you do can affect them in a good way or a bad way

Treat people like you would like to be treated even if it’s a shitty time for you

100% UV for you especially for that last sentence. Sorry my UV not worth much right now.

I paid it forward. :) My vote is worth a bit more. I thought you were referring to UV, and I was wondering what Vitamin D had to do with the post ... and then re-read and thought... hang on, this isn't a diagnostic!

@holoz0r
I thought UV as in ultraviolet when i wrote it and was like"hope this doesn't confuse anyone." Haha. Mah bad. :p

It's a pleasure :) I'm not here for the rewards I'm here to engage with cool peeps who have something real to say. :P

No, you should never assume anything. But I think that's beside the point. Whenever I see a beautiful smile, like yours in this pic, I don't care if it's fake or genuine. It makes ME feel good, bringing a smile to my face, and that's what matters most. So I'm either happy for the person for being happy, or else I admire that they manage to hide it so well. Of course there are all the unsuccessful attempts, which usually show, and no, they don't have the same effect on me. Still, in those cases I may give them an encouraging smile for at least trying, and hope that it will have a positive effect on them.

In the same way we should not assume that someone is in pain or angry just because they are screaming on top of their lungs. They may be just immensely happy, wanting to share it with the world. (Or in my part of the world they may want to sell something... ugh!) Well, this tends to have the opposite effect on me: usually it bothers me at indescribable proportions. So once again, the reason behind such show of emotions is secondary. What I consider more important is how it makes me feel. And I always prefer a fake smile to a genuinely happy scream.

Omg that would drive me nuts regardless of what emotion was behind the scream. Thanks for the kind remark on my smile. I was mostly happy at the time about to head out for a run. :) i know what you mean about people who fake smiles. It really annoys me.

I see a bright smile, but dark imagery in the background! :)

Thanks, and i like dark art :)
welcome to the dark side
