Routine Is Important - Getting back to basics

in #life8 years ago

Hey Steemians

Over the past few weeks say 4-6 I've slowly been slipping off my routine, a combination of tasks, distractions and the temptation of being lazy has thrown a wrench into my well-oiled machine life and its starting to show.

  • I see myself spending more time on tasks that don't need that much time to complete
  • My moods aren't the greatest
  • My physical performance isn't up to par
  • My eating habits aren't ideal

Basically, once one thing goes a knock on of self-discipline issues trend to follow suit you end up moody, inefficent and a little bit bloated

Why I need a routine

Ever since I began my journey into the working world, I've found having a work-life balance something I tend to struggle with. If I take on a task I like to see it out to the end often with an obsession and damming any and everything around me in order to complete the task.

This naturally leads to disruption and at points, burn out or break down lol, shit gets real! Stay away you might get hurt. It then takes me a while to realign and get back to my old measured, calculated self.

Having a routine

As of yesterday, I've tried to get back into my routine and I'm starting to feel much better and not like so shitty all the time, I'm a little more considerate and understanding and not a pain to deal with 30% of the time, eventually I hope to get back up to 50%.

  • I limit the hours I'm allowed to work to my usual 8 hours
  • I make 1-1 and half hours to train, this could be running, soccer or weight lifting
  • Take 2 hours to sit down, prepare a meal and eat it without shovelling it down my throat to get back to the next task
  • 2 - 3 hours social time I'll spend with friends or family just hanging out and relaxing
  • 8 hours sleep - This one has been the one I've struggled with the most and where it all started to go to shit

This is sort of my daily routine, often times I'll change up my physical activity or combine that with social time so I have alone time to relax maybe play some video games, watch a movie and just switch off for a bit

Benefits of routine

I find if I can keep to this routine I'm a bit better to deal with than most days and I find myself able to think clearer, do more and be more efficient.

Having a routine also helps me stay focused and constructive. Each day I create a list of my daily tasks and scratch them off my list, lol like this post it was on my list and oh the satisfaction it brings me.

Yeah, sex is great and so is stuffed crust pizza but have you tried making a list and scratching off all your tasks for the day? It's euphoric.

Maybe to some, I'm a robot or a drone, but I know what helps me remain centred and not lose it and try to smack someone in the face with a cheese grater. It's not only for my benefit but for those around me too!

So leave me to my routine, i'm happy!

Have at it

Do you have a routine that you stick to? How do you maintain it? is it strict or more of a fluid guideline?

Yeah I've been struggling with routine's too the past couple of years. Kids, they mess it up! lol
Routine is important, one of the routines I've been able to maintain that gives me some semblance of consistency is intermittent fasting in the mornings. I'm jealous of working out though, haven't been to the gym in years. The muscle loss is real!

Lol I can imagine that would be disruptive and you would have a lot less contro over your routine. So how does the fasting work and what does it do? Make you feel less sluggish?

LOL yeah muscle is a you dont use it you lose it kinda thing, my motablism doesn't allow me to rest much if i skip a few days I blow up like a baloon

The fasting I do most days is I drink lots of water in the morning and eat two meals a day. Lunch and dinner. Typically lunch at 12 or 1230 and dinner at 6 ish and possible a small snack after dinner if need be.
It makes sense from my own thoughts on the perspective to restrict your eating to only twice a day so that way your body is trained to use the calories and fuel it has to operate optimally. Some people think that working out on such a regimen is awful and it certainly was tough! ..at first. Once I was doing it regularly then work outs became much more productive. Personally, I think the whole mantra of eating all kinds of lean protein, drinking shakes and all that shit is a waste of time. Your body only uses a certain amount of protein that you intake for muscle creation. You just end up taking a lot more craps during the day honestly. When I was regularly working out and eating the way I do, mostly vegetarian with focuses on legumes, beans and high fat plants like avocados, I would pee a lot sure but you crap less. Your body uses the fuel you give it much more efficiently. I don't feel as lethargic as I do when I cheat on my diet like the holiday times we are entering in now. Your immune system functions much better due to less stress on it and your intestines; giving them a longer period of time to clean out by restricting your eating and drinking lots of water does wonders to flush it. I also find myself having more of a ketonic body type meaning my body burns fats much more efficiently than it does carbs. When I eat cheap carbs with not much fats I get the jitters and crash but when I eat a meal with good sources of fats like avocado and egg's on toast I get a great slow burning energy that lasts for quite some time.
That all goes along with my desire for lean muscle instead of being a muscle nugget like some dudes are (and often have chicken legs, that kills me! Don't skip legs bruh!) so it may not fully apply to you. You a wicked meat head?!
