Sitted in tatters
Clad in our daily rags
Skin and bones
Tangled hair decked by patches of ring worm.
This bush has become our niche, our haven.

Distended face
Running nose
Bare chest
Gravid eyes
Shoeless
Our teeth has not known a brush for days.
Our heart craves for inner joy each passing day.

Mother left
Father joined the heavenly choir
Our aunt sends us off to beg for our food
We become itinerant beggars with our bowl
We've received scolds and rebukes that have gone deep into our soul
We doubt if we have a tomorrow
Cos sorrow has been served to us in our today.

"Who are this ragamuffins touching my car"?.. She had blurted out. A blonde had asked as little brother ran towards her car,I stood fixated at her, wells of tears flowed down;why did mom run away leaving us behind to embrace a life full of uncertainties?.
I crossed over and pulled away my little brother. " Let's go,another will come".

The sun is up,our clothes are clung to our bodies.
Our eyes keep counting the number of passer-by's.
Our lips keep calculating the notes and coins thrown in grudgingly or happily.
We had been threatened to be thrown out if we didn't beg enough today.
"I can't keep feeding you two, I didn't kill you good-for-nothing mother -my brother wasted his money on. She ran away like the wild pig that she is".

Yesterday,a car had swerved past us. splashing the dirt from a puddle on us.
Having reversed back to see us cling to each other like canned fishes;he sped away without muttering a word.

Men have made us feel like aliens
Humans have made us harbour thoughts of suicide.
Beings have made us conceive thoughts of evil." Witches", "Beggars", "Evil children" have become metaphors used to describe us.

We could be another Osama Bin Laden or One-eyed Sunday.
You choose.
