Paulo Coelho (1947) is a Brazilian writer, author of novels, fiction, police investigation, mystical themes and self-help, he is one of the best-selling authors in the world. He was elected to chair No. 21 of the Brazilian Academy of Letters. Paulo Coelho de Souza was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro, on August 24, 1947. At the age of seven, he joined Colégio Santo Inácio and by that time he already liked to write. At school, Paulo Coelho participated in poetry and theater contests. He was a troubled teenager and in friction with his parents, who did not want him to be a writer, he was admitted to a psychiatric hospital several times.
