Yunan mitolojisinde İda Dağı olarak bilinen, Kaz Dağları, Mitolojiye göre Kral Priamos'un dağda ölüme terk ettiği oğlu Paris bir ana ayı tarafından emzirerek büyütülür. Büyüyüp yaman ve güzel bir delikanlı olan Paris, Hera, Athena ve Afrodit arasında kimin en güzel olduğunu seçme konusunda Zeus tarafından görevlendirilir.

Paris birbirinden güzel üç kadın arasında seçimi nasıl yapacağını düşünürken, dünyanın ilk rüşvet olayları devreye girer. Hera, Asya ve Avrupa krallığını, Athena savaşta dünyanın en büyük yiğidi olmayı ve insanüstü aklı vaat eder. Afrodit ise dünyanın en güzel kadınının aşkını teklif eder. Paris, krallığı ve kahramanlığı bir kenara itip aşkı seçer. Böylece dünyanın ilk güzellik kraliçesi Afrodit olur. Zeus bu dağda doğmuştur ve ünlü Truva savaşı'nı buradan izlemiştir.

Yunan Mitolojisi efsanelerine göre, tanrılar Troya Savaşını Kazdağları'nın doruğundan izlemiş, Ganymedes buraya kaçırılmıştır.

Kaz dağına yönelik mitolojiler oldukça fazladır.Tanrılar ve Tanrıçalar arasındaki iliskiler ile Insanlarla Tanrı ve tanrıçalar arasındaki iliksilerin geçtigi mekân; hep Kaz Dağı’dır. Mitolojilerin ana kaynagı Homeros’tur. “Zeus ve Ganymede”; “Afrodit ve Anchises”; “Güzellik yarısması”; en ünlülerindendir.

Zeus ve Ganymede; Erikhthonius’tan Tros dogdu. Troia kralı Tros’unda üç oglu oldu. Ilos,Assarakos ve tanrılara denk Ganymedes. Adı “aydınlık, göz alıcı, ısık saçan” anlamına gelen Ganymede’nin ölümlülerin en güzeli oldugu belirtilmektedir.

Büyüme çagında olan Ganymede, Troia yakınlarındaki İda dağının eteklerinde babasının gemisini gözetlerken Zeus ona âsık olmus ve bir kartala dönüserek Ganymede’yi Olimpos dağına kaçırmıstır. Ganymede, kutsal nektar dolu altın kupayı sunmak üzere -sonsuza dek genç kalması için- Zeus tarafından seçilmis ve eski Yunan Olympia tanrıları -bir kutlama için- toplandıklarında kutsal sarabı sunan kisi olmustur. Kaçırılmasına karsılık olarak, kederli babası kral Tros’a, Zeus tarafından bir ahır dolusu büyüleyici görünümlü atlar hediye edilmistir.

Afrodit ve Anchises; Anchises, Troia yakınlarında bulunan ve Dardanus döneminden sonra Dardania adını alan bir bölgeden gelmektedir.

Burası Samothrace (Semadirek) adasını terk eden Dardanus tarafından yerlesilerek olusturulmustur. Zeus, Afrodit’e ders vermesi için Afrodit’in Anchises’e âsık olmasını saglamıstır. Zeus, Afrodit’in kalbine o sıralarda bol su kaynakları olan İda dağının sarp tepeleri arasında hayvan yetistiriciligi yapan Anchises ile ilgili bir heyecan ve arzu yerlestirmis, Afrodit, onu görünce asık olmus, süslenip giyinerek Kıbrıs adasını terk edip, İda dağına ulasmıstır.
