A rice mill scene

This is a very familiar and timeless scene from a rural township in Bangladesh. This is a traditional rice mill or chatal area, where men and women workers are busy working together to produce rice from paddy. The work of breaking rice is going on with the help of mechanical technology inside a semi-paca house made of bricks. A few women workers are very dedicatedly engaged in handling rice sacks and picking rice. The simple clothes they wear and the cloth tied around their heads show the hard work and fighting mentality of rural working women. At the same time, a male worker is seen operating the main part of the mill. The rows of white sacks kept on the floor are silent witnesses to the filled rice or paddy, which is getting ready to meet the food needs of the country.

This is the mainstay of our agro-based economy.
