Cyberpunk Anarchist Utopia: Random Thoughts

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Imagine waking up in the morning to a cup of cappuccino being handed to you by your personal service robot (who might also happen to look like an extremely attractive human). This service robot is manufactured and repaired by other robots that are self-learning machines capable of gathering the raw materials to build and maintain all machinery needed to keep you alive and comfortable. In other words, you don’t have to do any labor to get the service of these robots. They grow your food, build and maintain your house, vehicles, and any other products or services you may need. Sound far-fetched? Actually, it’s right around the corner.

The revolution in learning machines is going to change the world into an anarchist utopia. What if you could purchase a box of nano-robots that could access open-source data to build and maintain larger robots that would then build and service other robots that all take care of you and each other? Wouldn’t this be one of the last purchases you ever made? Perhaps the only thing left to buy would be the raw materials needed by the robots. Of course, there might come a day when a learning machine figures out how to build a “Star Trek replicator” type machine that could simply build everything from atoms. That might not happen for a long time, but machine learning robots are already here.

How is all this going to lead to an anarchist utopia? Well, let’s think about it. If machines can provide all our services for us and machines can service themselves how much do we really need the state to provide anything for us? Self-maintaining Robots can provide food, security, shelter, entertainment, build roads and on and on. You might think, what about a justice system or military? What if people create robot armies to take over the raw materials needed for robot manufacturing? This is a good point. How do we deal with cyberpunk assholes that want to use force and aggression against other people? This has always been the dilemma of anarchism.

In an open-source society (one where all information is shared, i.e., no intellectual property) if most people want non-aggression we will have peace because many people will cooperate to use their robots to defend against people who attack others with their robots. Eventually, the aggressors will be defeated. On the other hand, if the majority of people want to be aggressive and attack others then we will have chaos.

It all depends on two things:

  1. An open source society where everyone has equal access to the most advanced technology information.
  2. Majority wanting peace.

The other problem is that technology is so powerful now that one person can create a bioweapon that could kill off all of humanity. This is the outlier event that could ruin the whole anarchist utopia thing. Of course, if you are prepared for a possible bioweapon attack then it might not defeat you and you could find and restrict the person that tried to kill humanity. This would entail a certain loss of privacy in the new anarchist utopian world. One in which people could be monitored by all of humanity as to their threat level.

Would you be willing to give up your privacy for a utopian world?
