The problem: Sensitive data is worth alot!!!

Everyone knows your data on the internet is mostly not safe. Passwords, emailadresses, homeadresses and whatever you can think of gets leaked by hackers who hack into databases and sell it to people who on their turn try to benifit as max as possible from it!

The last few months I had to change my passwords several times because I got notificationemails that someone tried to acces my google-account. Also my poloniex-account and bittrex account received a few times a visitor.

Yesterday i got a message from Localbitcoins that someone logged into my account.

Did your accounts ever got breached?

Luckely for me I did not kept my crypto on the exchanges. And gmail blocked the hackers also because they tried to log in with an IP that belonged to another country.

How can you check if your sensitive data like passwords and emailadres is leaked?

Well, There are multiple sites where you can do a search if some of your data is leaked. In this post I will talk about one in particular: http://Leakbase.pw

On this website they do not only tell you a yes or no if your there is data from you leaked but also from wich websites, wich accounts with email and passwords.

yes you even can see other peoples email and pasword (+username)

You can make a searchentry by filling in name, nickname, adres, password, IP, phone number..

This site is not free. 1 day acces to the database cost 2$. for a week you pay 5$ and for a month its 20$. You can pay
in bitcoin, ethereum or with paypal.

I am pretty sure if you would do a querry on yourself or a few friend you defenitly would find something. I checked myself and found some things and my best friend and also his name and accounts came up.

If you find data that belongs to you you can request that it gets removed out of their database, but beware, that does not mean that no-one knows your password anymore, or doesnt have your email or homeadress.

In the first place the hackers themselfes still have your information, second, they sell it to different people to make the most profit possible.

What to do to be SAFE (humhum)

Completely safe you will never be, but

  • check these databases to see if your info or the info of a friend has leaked
  • ask to remove the data
  • change your passwords imidiatly
  • Make sure that like every 6 months you change your passwords.
  • do not keep your passwords on your computer but write them down somewhere
