Do you want to know a nifty trick to make a glow stick last longer?

So the party has finished but your glow sticks are still kicking on. Rather than throw these fluroescent tubes of fun in the bin, there is a way you can 'preserve' the glow and bring them out to shine again for future festivities.

Even if you never plan to do this, or if you usually out party your glow sticks this is still a cool little bit of trivia to know.

To make your glow stick last longer - freeze it.

Yup, stick them in the freezer. To re-activate the glow, simply defrost under warm tap water.

I tested this out recently with a bunch I had left over from a New Years Eve party and it works.  You need to freeze them while they are still glowing.

The luminescent chemical reaction is directly affected by heat. Freezing the stick will turn off the glow effect. Heat will speed up the glow effect. Every time you re-charge the glow stick with heat, the glow will slowly get fainter so you can not preserve the glow indefinitely, just slow it right down. Even after a week in the freezer my glow sticks once warmed up again are still going pretty strong! I don't really have any need to make a glow stick last longer but I like having a few in my freezer. Plus my two year old daughters think it is pretty fun too.

Until next time,

xx Isabella
