FOODIE REVIEW! A "Chef's Table" Restaurant
Love Netflix’s Chef’s Table? Want to eat at every celeb chef's restaurant? Love Food? So do I!
If you have not caught this series yet, and you love food, visually stunning imagery of said food and human interest stories, this show is for you!
In one recent episode we saw LA chef extraordinaire Nancy Silverton, and because she is local, we decided to try out her restaurant!
The place is chi SPACCA, Italian for “he who cleaves”, and is on the famous Melrose Ave in Los Angeles. It sits next door to one of Nancy’s other LA hot spots (Mozza Pizzeria and Mozza Osteria). Here are all my pics from our dining experience:
The walls of CS are lined with wine bottles, the atmosphere is small and intimate (I think there were about a dozen tables).
(my handsome date)
The service is impeccable. The food goes beyond expectation. I wanted to try everything on the menu!
We started with the Butter Lettuces lightly dressed in a lemon vinaigrette, but the pack of flavor came from the fresh herbs. Gave it a fresh start to the meal, and a good palate cleanser between dishes.
THE Focaccia di Recco was next. A perfection of crispy blistered focaccia dough and melted cheese bubbling from its center, still resting in a light pool of olive oil. The secrets to perfect her recipe were found in Italy. It is all about the copper pan it is cooked in and the cheese, ohhh the cheese! A fermented, salty mozzarella cheese, that comes from cows who have to journey up and down a large hill to graze, causing their milk to become “stressed” so it has a bold, delicious flavor. It took Nancy years to perfect, and it is worth every penny.
Chi Spacca is a meat eaters paradise that Nancy created along with famous chef Mario Batali and Joe Bastianich (who you may recognize from Masterchef Italia). Naturally, we had to try at least one protein dish. These are the Porcini Rubbed Beef Short Ribs topped with salsa verde & scallion.
Accompanied by Roasted Cauliflower w/ crushed lemon bagna cauda and Mashed Potatoes
For dessert they gave us complimentary seasonal Gelati & Sorbetti in flavors of peach, caramel, & berry, topped with an Italian cookie. A great cool down to a hot and delicious meal.
We also ordered the Bread Pudding, new to the menu that day, and since we were on the first dinner reservation of the night, we were actually the first patrons to enjoy this dish, ever! It was saturated in rum sauce and had a salted rum ice cream on top. It was delicious!
Amazing dining experience I highly recommend to anyone visiting LA. I also highly recommend you watch Netflix's Chef's Table if you haven't already!
Hope you enjoyed my post!!
