Escaping the Bushveld

Being a longtime resident of the bushveld sure as endless perks, but every now and then you just want to get away a bit. But where do you go when you are a nature dwelling farm-girl and the city just won't cut it? Well you run off to the mountains of course.

So, I headed off into the lovely Magoebaskloof mountain range on a lovely Sunday morning, where they were hosting the quarterly Mina's @ Zwakala market. This is also where Zwakala brewery makes their finely crafted, multinational award winning beers.

A definite favorite of the day was the Gin bar. Here they made the finest Gin cocktails, using a locally crafted gin, and indigenous fruits from the area, my favorite was the Gin cocktail with freshly picked blueberries.

There was arts and crafts spots set up for the kids where they could paint and create their masterpieces, giving some of the adults a bit of free time to enjoy other activities, and amazing entertainment.

There were plenty of stalls all selling hand crafted items this included clothing and even natural skincare and facial products.

All of this while live music filled the air and entertained the masses. The act was Bubu Nxumalo and her band. Bubu and the guys entertained the crowd with her smooth soothing voice while the band livened it up with some amazing tunes. And when Bubu needed a break from the stage, these three great guys who makes up a three piece marimba band were standing eagerly ready to rock the crowd with some lively beats.

And all of this in a stunning open air venue, situated in the Magoebaskloof mountain range, what more could you ask for? No wonder everyone in the crowd looks so happy!

Even the tiny explorers were having a blast, sinking their feet into mountain sand, and enjoying the finer things in life, like sticks. Ah, mother nature - giving boys sticks to play with.

Good food, fine local drinks and great friends - Definitely worth leaving the bush for (at least just for a little while!)
