Our Neighbour Zé

in #life7 years ago

When you live in the middle of nowhere, your neighbours are important and we are lucky to live not so far away from Seu Zé. Once a week or so, we visit him to buy organic vegetables.

He is known locally for growing organic mandioca (cassava), from which he makes his living. His garden however, has a wealth of other plants and fruits and is surrounded by all types of citrus trees.

He doesn´t charge for oranges and he lets you pick as many as you like!

He surrounds his plots with sticks to keep off cats and other animals.

Visiting Zé is always a pleasure and reminds me a little of my childhood in rural England.

I always like to see how good is grown in other countries. Impressive. Thanks for the post.

The process is not that different. We do have seasons, but winter (which we are going into now) is a little like European summer :) , so we are able to continue growning without the threat of a frost. However, the wealth of native plants is outstanding!
