Music country of aceh

moved to rediscover the treasures of Acehnese traditional music, whether hundreds of years old, or just decades old, but already considered as "typical Aceh". We are determined to introduce it back to the community in the hope of reinvigorating the memory of those who have known or known, and or can inform the people who are not familiar with the Acehnese music scene, especially the younger generation and the art-loving community from outside.

  1. Geundrang

    Geundrang has double-membrane (skin) left and right with body or frame is longer than other Geundrang type. It has various sizes and shapes and is used for ceremonies, religious, dance, singing, official ceremony and other ceremonies.

According to records obtained it may have existed since the Aceh of Hinduism and similar to the Dhol instrument originating from India, or allegedly also came to Aceh through Islamic traders from Gujarat late XI century.

Geundrang-like instruments have existed since the Neolithic era as evidenced by the discovery of a series of Geundrang cultural relics of Mesopotamia (Valley of Ur) dating from the year 3000 BC, and there are several reliefs of this statue of musical instruments in India dates 2000 years ago.

In Aceh, Geundrang can be found in Aceh Besar and other coastal areas such as Pidie and Aceh Utara, and is played in ensemble with serune kalee and rapai instruments.

  1. Rapa'i

    RAPAI is a traditional percussion instrument of Aceh which is included in the frame drum family, which is played by being beaten by hand without using a stick. RAPAI is often used in traditional ceremonies in Aceh such as wedding ceremonies, circumcision of apostles, night markets, dances, anniversaries, birthdays and so on, and is an integral part of the life of the people of Aceh both philosophically or culturally. Rapai play the role of tempo, rhythm, tingkahan, jangling and make the atmosphere becomes more lively and festive. It supports choruses (melodies) from Serune Kalee or buloh longs (blowing instruments beratonval diatonic tones).

There is a pameo that is often heard containing "peunajoh timphan, piasan rapai" which means Acehnese special food is a timpan (a kind of rice powder in it contains coconut and palm sugar, or contains sarikaya / rich egg aso, wrapped in young banana leaves and steamed), then piasan rapai which is defined as an entertainment musical instrument is reach.

Based on the poetry script sung with RAPAI, this instrument comes from Syeh Abdul Kadir Jailani, the great scholar of fiqh from Persia who lived in Baghdad from 1077 to 1166 AD (470-560 Hijriah).
