It was the first full moon day of january which is called Jeongwol Daeboreum in Korea.

It is the 15th day of the New Year according to the lunar calendar, the day of the first full moon of the lunar year. The New Year's Day is the biggest one. We have another New Year's Day in lunar calendar. Jeongwol Daeboreum is followed the Lunar New Year's Day.

There are many important traditional festivals in Korea include Daeboreum, the first full-moon day (the 15th day of the first month of the lunar calendar), Dano, the spring festival (the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar calendar), and Chuseok, the harvest moon or Korean Thanksgiving (the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar).

There are three representative foods Ogokbpp, Burum and seasoned greens for the day.

Ogokbap is five-grain rice. Burum is nuts especially, uncooked chestnut and walnut. Bite on a nut to ward off boils before talking in the morning. Burum is also done for healthy teeth. There is a wish for good harvest in Ohgokbap. I think ancestors ate Ohgokbap with seasoned greens for nutritional balance. 

Let's talk about the performance such as Ganggangsulae and Jwibulnori which is played for some reasons on Jeongwol Daeboreum.

Ganggangsulae is traditional Korean circle dance play (by women under the bright full moon). While women turn round and round and sing ganggangsullae. So, Ganggangsullae is a kind of old Korean habit. We are able to see and have an experience in a Jeongwol Daeboreum festival. Gangganssulae is put on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Jwibulnori is another representative play on Jeongwol Daeboreum. It is the custom that fires rabit fire like a big bonfire in a field and plays. It contains the intention of burning weeds and grass in the field to reduce the damage of insect pests.
