RE: Reflection, imitation and erring on the side of peace

in #life6 years ago

So true...If only a "perfect " world....but as you say....it wasn't a lesson you learned early...many of us were harmed as children....carried a fearful...distrustful way of thinking and acting....often over reaction is a response to one's inner fears, insecurities, attempt to control current events so one doesn't feel past pains....

Age can force mellowing....but not always...perhaps we need everyone who reaches age 21 to have a certain amount of counseling or be part of a group that forces introspection to better define their purpose in life? I know it won't happen....but....

Then again...there are very bad people in the world....ignoring them may not be an option...so what does one do then? Ghandi approach? Jesus approach? Sadly....we humans often act more animalistic than humanistic....

To me it boils down to this....do you wake up each day thinking life owes you something or that you owe life something....

Thanks for your stimulative topic.

I agree with you in general. As to the bad people, well, restraint should replace punishment. Couple that restraint with counseling, 12 step groups and the like and I think we can deal with them well.

I don't think prison should be for punishment, I think it should only be used for restraint, and then eventually rehabilitation. We've tried the punishment thing and it's not working out so well.

Thanks for your thoughts.
