The majority of oral diseases are caused by poor oral hygiene. And most of them are preventable if we follow dentists instructions and education.

One of the greatest preventive measure is brushing done properly. That's why today am bringing this topic, I know you do that daily but you may not be doing it correctly.

2. Materials

Here is a list of materials you will need:

🌞 1.Brush with soft bristles

😃 On your back teeth both side, Place you brush at 45 degrees to your gum line and move the brush in horizontal back and forth movement as shown on the above image, gently until all foods and plaques are removed then with a vertical movement move your brush downward 👇 towards the chewing part to remove foods and plaques in between teeth
⚠ Don't move brush towards the gum you may push food inside the gum and this may lead to gum diseases
Do this on both side left and right upper and lower.

On your front teeth do the same, place your brush on 45 degrees and back and forth movement, do this on both Lower and upper teeth. And with your brush do vertical movement from the gum line towards the chewing part of your teeth apply this on both lower and upper as illustrated on the image above.

Third step

Brush the chewing part of your posterior teeth on both upper and lower make sure you clean it well because they are most susceptible to caries and also make sure you reach wisdom teeth if you have them.

Next step is to clean the inside part of your both upper and lower posterior teeth. By placing brush on 45 degrees to the gum line do back and forth movements and after move brush vertically towards chewing part to remove foods and plaques in between teeth.
⚠ This is the surface where most people get accumulation of calculus(yellowish or dark hard deposits on tooth like stones, some patients thinks it is a part of the tooth because they are hard. And to remove them you need a professional cleaning)

5th step

In this step you clean inside of your both upper and lower front teeth with movements as shown on below images

⚠ Most people forget to brush Lower inside teeth surface or they just push debris towards the gum line hence this also common surface for calculus deposits.

Last step

In this step you clean gently your soft tissue ( tongue and hard palate.
Cleaning these parts parts is necessary as they also trap food debris which may lead to bad breath if not cleaned

Recommendations:

These are the things I usually recommend to my patients to maintain good oral hygiene:

😀 1. Brush wish soft bristles brush with a shape that help it to reach even in the back (wisdom teeth).
😀 2. Change brush at least in every 3 months, I usually tell them to buy more brushes at once and change it after 3 months without going again and again to buy brush every 3 months.
😀 3. Brush with fluoride toothpaste, and don't clean with water after brushing just spit so that fluoride in the paste remains on tooth for more time,
Here most complain that there are dirt, then I tell them to clean with water at first time and add a little bit of paste and brush somehow then spit.
😀 4. Brush at least twice daily after breakfast and evening before sleeping.
😀 5. I usually tell them to brush at least 3mins and brush all tooth surfaces as I have shown , most people rush while brushing and they only brush the front teeth that everyone can see, remember the ones you didn't brushed can cause bad breath which people don't see but smell that.
😀 6. Is to use dental floss (threads) to clean in between teeth at least once a day before bed.

To conclude I can tell everyone just to visit a dentist for regular check ups and he may give recommendations according to your situation.

Your smile ☺ your confidence.

Thank you, hope you find this helpful.

It's surprising that many people were not taught the proper way to brush their teeth.

In the military, we stressed dental health because too many servicemen were deemed "undeployable" due to dental conditions.

Remember this?

Namaste, JaiChai

Haha I liked this video it also illustrate it very well, the vertical motion is really necessary.
Thank you #jaichai for your addition.

Brushing, flossing, tongue scraping and mouth rinsing with alcohol mouthwash are great ways to prevent tooth decay. My only recommendation would be to use fluoride free toothpaste.

Thanks a lot @lymepoet for your helpful additions.
Yeah For low risk patients, I agree with you for the use of alcohol month wash and fluoride free tooth paste
But fluoride have proven it's efficiency to reduce chances of caries and it's ability to arrest them. So I always recommend it for anyone.
So if not using fluoride tooth paste at least drink water with fluoride.
⚠And excessive use of alcohol mouth wash increases the chances of oral cancer.

I liked your comment so helpful

Cheers for the informative post @bmotives, slang yaba "dentiste" urayize se?😂. In all seriousness though you're right, we should always take care of our smiles.

Haha 😂 thank you @ange.nkuru
Yeah ndiwe Nuko hari website ndi gukora ndashaka kubanza kuyikora ngo nge mpashyira blog ubundi nyizane hano easyly.
Ange rwandans need awareness in oral health and I want to use this platform.

This is helpful. On the surface, it is easy to think, as do many, that brushing is obvious, but there is obviously more to it. I agree. And you here properly lay out those essentials.

The other really important one, and which i kept looking for, until i saw it the recommendations, is flossing your teeth.

I find that very useful in removing the stubborn flakes in between my teeth. And then also for generally cleaning in between the teeth as even the brush cannot penetrate their.

It is that small thread that is able to do that. I wish you had elaborated a lot more on it.

Yeah that's true @mirrors flossing need also an elaboration,I'll prepare an article for it's allustration
Thanks a lot for the feedback

It is well, @bmotives. The pleasure is mine. Keep more of this kind coming.

wauhh...great. our tongues and teeth should always be clean and safe against various infections.

Yeah they should!
Thank you so much @jona12 for stopping and reading my article
