Buying Time ( An Attempt To Live Forever)

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Man in time has been fascinated with the subject of death. There is this fear of it that makes everyone shudder at the thought of it. Almost everyone will opt to live forever if there is such an alternative. That may be wishful thinking for the average person. But there were some who have means to put the idea of living forever, or at least an attempt at it, in practice.

Larry Elison: Born August 17, 1944. Age: 73

He is co-founder of Oracle Corporation, a multinational computer technology corporation. He was ranked in 2017, by Forbes magazine as the fifth richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of $59.3 billion. He had donated about $430 million in grants to medical researchers since 1997, about 80% of which, has been focused on anti-aging developments.
He is quoted to say this:

"Death makes me angry. It doesn't make any sense to me. Death has never made any sense to me. How can a person be there and then just vanish, just not be there?

I could understand his frustration as it does not make any sense to me either.

Peter Thiel: Born October 11, 1967. Age: 49

He is an American entrepreneur, venture capitalist, philanthropist, political activist, and author. He had an estimated $2.7 billion and ranked No. 246 by Forbes400.

He does not hide his love for extending life as he takes hormone growth daily and had plans to participate in cryonic freezing after death.

Scientists are discovering new methods to prolong human life and, in the case of cryogenics, to suspend the possibility of life for centuries.

He is a supporter of research in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. In 2006 he donated $3.5 million to the Methuselah Foundation, a non-profit group working on extending healthy life.

Sergey Brin: Born August 21, 1973. Age: 43

He is the co-founder of Google, internet entrepreneur and philanthropist. Brin is the 12th richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of US$45 billion.
He has donated over $150 million to research agencies and causes that are working on elongating life. The recent being the launching of $25 million to National Academy of Medicine's Grand Challenge in Health Longevity, as part of its efforts to, as one doctor puts it, "end aging forever."

The next on this list is surprisingly young.

Mark Zuckerberg: Born May 14, 1984. Age: 33

He is an American computer programmer and internet mogul. He is the co-founder of Facebook and its current CEO.
He is ranked no. 4 richest people in the world, as at August 2017, with a net worth of $55.5 billion.

Zuckerberg and wife, are founders of breakthroughprize which awards prize money of $3 million, of which one of the winners for 2017 is Yoshinori Ohsumi, a 72-year-old cell biologist of Japenese nationality.

Zuckerberg in a Q&A, on Facebook, asked
Professor Hawking when he said:

'Which of the big questions in science would you like to know the answer to and why?'

Zuckerberg replied:

'I'm most interested in questions about people. What will enable us to live forever? How do we cure all diseases?'

That is a question I am interested to know the answer.

Walt Disney was born in 1901 and died in 1966 at age 65.
He told the family to preserve his body by freezing with hopes that future technology would allow for its reanimation.

Walt's request may be an urban legend but it does not seem so far-fetched MIT's researchers in 2016 were able to preserve the neurological functions of a rabbit brain by freezing it (cryogenics).
That could be applied to humans in the future. For now, we should be content to live few years then take a bow.

Thanks for reading and do resteem if you find this interesting.

Thanks a lot :)

Forever living idea thing is not bad but with a clause though i. e. without diseases it should be healthy but our earth is already exploding with limited natural resources it would be really wild dream to live forever n exploiting nature for no place for next generation.

If we can do that maybe we can reduce reproduction so that the scarce resources will be enough for the living.

Thanks for your input. It's always a pleasure to see you here.

I definitely think it could be possible within our lifetime (if it's not already), but it's going to be a huge ethical & human rights issue.

Elizabeth Parrish, telomeres & CRISPR are worth Google searches if you want some intriguing reading. :)

Yeah the ethical peeps are on standby and ready to cry wolf at the slightest opportunity. They are the ones crying already on cloning and associated research.

You have a point here. Before I continue I'll love to know the inspiration for this your username 😁. The ethical guys can go jump in the lake on this one. I don't see what could be wrong ethically here if the scientist can give us a chance to live longer if not forever.

I like the thought process of this. I will like to live for ever too.

Thank you very much.

All brilliant minds! But then, trying to alter natures dynamics is always a teeny bit touchy, to most people and most faiths. Well, let's see what the whole 'life elongation' studies reveal in the nearest future.

You never really could tell what will happen. You just have to start from somewhere and see where it leads. So I guess science is yet to conquer a lot of other limitations with time.

Death is a frustration to carnal man who think that the worth of life is in the abundance of material possession. Those who have so much would want to remember the inevitability of death.

You have a point.
