My family has a bit of ties with the Valley Forge area so I decided while we where down there to take a bit of a trip and check up on things .

So what is Valley Forge?

For those of you that do not know Valley Forge is a national historical park site of the Revolutionary war encampment where George washington and his troops stayed from 1777 to 1778.

What you will see there are a bunch of walking, bike and horse back riding trails along with a few tours that will take you around miles of the park. Old log-cabin barracks and the house General Washington stayed in are all able to be entered on the tour to view how life was like back then.

The Revolutionary war was fought from 1775 to 1783 which was Americas war of Independence. The 13 Colonies declared their independence as the United States of America from Great Britain.

Valley Forge also has a mansion on its property that was build by Kennedy in 1852 and later bought by Supplee's after his death and his wife's death. J. Henderson Supplee was one of the last Civil War veterans in Montgomery County who died in 1936.

It later served as the Port Kennedy Inn and boardinghouse for those who took care of the park. In 1986 a 55 year lease with the park service was signed, restored the building and operated it as the Kennedy- Supplee Mansion Restaurant. Unfortantly they filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2005 and since 2006 the mansion has remained vacant. Here are a few pictures I took when visiting in 2017.
