"One Of The Disgusting Custom In Nepal- Where Young Girls Are Offered To Temples "

This early morning when i was going through a newspaper i found a terrifying news about Deuki System in Nepal. I had heard so many times but never get a chance to make it clear. It makes me literally sad. So i wanted to share with you people.

Deuki is an antiquated exclusively honed in the far western districts of Nepal in which a young lady is offered to the nearby Hindu sanctuary to increase religious legitimacy.

Girls become deukis either because their parents offer them in hopes of gaining protection and good favor from the Gods or because their parents sell them to wealthier couples seeking the same holy approval.[1] Poor families who offer up their daughters gain status and approval from their communities from the perceived sacrifice they have made. They are also relieved of the burden of finding husbands for their daughters.

After offering the girls to the temples, neither parents nor couples who bought them provide any financial assistance or have additional contact with deukis. Because they are considered unfit for marriage and receive no money from those that dedicated them to their temples, deukis have to depend on worshipers’ monetary offerings to the temple. Left with insufficient income, no skills or education, and pressure brought on by the folkloric conviction that sex with a deuki can cleanse sins and bring good luck, many deukis are driven to survival sex, a form of prostitution in which sex is traded for basic necessities such as food or shelter.

With virtually no one to take care of them, the children have to depend on and live off the offerings made to the temples. But because of the poor state of the nation and the frugal income generated by the area's temples, they are forced to find alternative ways to survive. As a result, they often end up selling their bodies.

The flesh trade of the deukis is on the rise. Misguided by their own selfishness, prominent locals spread the blind belief that sex with a deuki will give them religious merit.

Is some cases, it has been reported that the families of those who sell such deukis to the temples have sexually exploited them.

Girls born from such copulations themselves are sold into deukis, while sons become religious healers.

Meanwhile, people have started speaking out against the deuki custom. Many women's activist and human rights activists have called the deuki custom a transgression of human rights.

But regrettably, the government has not taken any steps to put an end to this sick and depressing custom. Rather, it remains, staining the whole of Nepalese civilization with the tears of those unfortunate girls we call deukis.
