Minority Report Real Life? Stopping murder before it HAPPENS

in #life6 years ago

Some of us might remember the Minority report of 2002. Staring the massive 5 foot 6 inch star, Tom Cruise. Long story short, they predict crimes before they happen... Gasp I just spoiled the movie, and by the way Bruce Willis is dead in the Six Sense.

But In all seriousness. Just got done watching a CBS news thing on a program they are doing in Chicago. http://www.cbs.com/shows/60_minutes/video/rcERHvH5mr4zE0Iv4VuyOtBnM54MjIH6/predicting-murder/

Here is the Link, but a couple of points, cost was 3 million, they have visited over 1500 people, and out of those 78% have not committed another violent crime. That is really cheap for the results, and I am excited to see the potential. Basically they put in the information, of what crimes you have done, who you hang out with, and a bunch of other facts. It then says the likely hood of them being shot, or pulling the trigger. They then visit them, in the daylight, and offer a way out, or help. The biggest thing, is there is a huge community support to help these high risk people out. That I believe is the key. You need the community to want to change for real change to happen. A great story in the time of really bad journalism. A must watch.

Ya but face book is profiling for money, and hate speech. Funny they say they are doing if for the good of the people, but that is what every dictatorship has started out doing. Censoring people that don't agree.

thanks for advice.absolutely watch.

It is a great initiative to help those who need it.

thanks for advice. I watched the film. To watch the movie. enough to played Tom Cruise :D

this is amazing ,, i like this @bigram13

thank for your advice,,

I've heard the best way to 'stay clean' is to avoid 'old friends'. You need to make new friends who reinforce your resolutions rather than hanging with those who were accomplices.

Those that we surround ourselves with make a big difference in how we look and act. For example:

I really wouldn't want to get dragged down with that last couple of friends again!

haha, they are crazy looking people.

Great find, and yes, in a world full of crap journalism, this was very good.

I'm so glad the city of Chicago is taking a realistic approach to their gun violence problem. And I'm elated to see they are realizing that prevention through community outreach is the way to go, rather than incarceration.

I'm a firm believer that incarceration is the reason behind so much of our gang problem. These young boys get locked up as just that, boys, but they come out as full blown gangsters, because you have to be affiliated with a gang to survive in prison! This creates a viscous cycle which cannot be broken until we find a way to keep these young men out of the prison system, and I think that's exactly what this program can do with some more funding and volunteers.

And it's amazing that 44% of those approached agree to the program - and 78% of those do not have any arrests after that.

Thanks @bigram13!

Ya, so many people just wait for the government to fix it, People need to step up and help.
