Proper wound treatment / Richtige Wundbehandlung
I´m not only struggling with the well known Bali Belly at the moment. No, other shit keeps coming my way. But tis time it was all my fault and frivolity.
This is going to be a good advice why you should always go and see a doctor if you have any kind of wound and you´re in a tropical region like we´re.
Ich habe im Moment nicht nur mit dem bekannten "Bali Belly" zu kämpfen. Nein, andere Scheiße kommt mir immer wieder in den Weg. Aber diesmal war alles meine Schuld und Leichtsinnigkeit.
Dies wird ein guter Rat sein, warum du immer einen Arzt aufsuchen solltest, wenn du irgendeine Art von Wunde hast und dich in einer tropischen Region wie wir befindest.
Who wants to go to a doctor or even the hospital while on your well deserved holiday in the tropics. I guess nobody wants that. But let me tell you, that even with the smallest cut or braze you´ll be always better if you go and see a doctor. Otherwise it could end quite bad.
I was always treating small wounds by myself. If you´re surfing you don´t go to see a doc for every small reef cut or bruise and so far it always went well for me. Until yesterday...
Wer möchte in seinem wohlverdienten Urlaub in den Tropen zum Arzt oder sogar ins Krankenhaus? Das will wohl niemand. Aber lass mich dir sagen, dass du auch mit kleinsten Schnitten oder Schürfwunden immer besser dran bist, wenn du zum Arzt gehst. Sonst könnte es schlimm enden.
Ich habe immer kleine Wunden alleine behandelt. Wenn man surft, geht man nicht zu einem Arzt für jeden kleinen Riffschnitt oder Prellung und bis jetzt hat es auch immer gut funktioniert. Bis gestern...
I´m driving scooter in asia since almost 10 years now and I never ever had an accident, not even a small one, nothing.
But on monday, I was about to turn right on a busy road and had to cross the other lane when I ran into another scooter. My right leg was squeezed in between the two scooters but I did not fall. I then parked my scooter and checked the wound. There was nothing, well, almost nothing. It just hurt from the impact and there was a small graze.

Aber am Montag wollte ich auf einer viel befahrenen Straße nach rechts abbiegen und musste die andere Spur überqueren, als ich auf einen anderen Roller stieß. Mein rechtes Bein war zwischen den beiden Rollern eingeklemmt, aber ich bin nicht gefallen. Dann stellte ich meinen Roller ab und überprüfte die Wunde. Da war nichts, naja fast nichts. Es tat nur weh von dem Aufprall und eine kleine Schürfwunde war zu sehen..
I went straight to the pharmacy to buy some stuff to treat it. I could not find a proper disinfection spray and did not want to use 70% alcohol. Would have been really stupid to use this unless you really love pain. So the woman in the pharmacy gave me Rivanol which I never heard of before. It´s a yellow antiseptic liquid which was very common...decades ago?
I shaved my leg as good as possible, removed all the dead skin and started to apply Rivanol. It did not hurt at all and still did not look bad. There also was a small blister, from the exhaust of the other scooter, which also did not hurt, so I thought it´s all good. Case closed.
On the next day the wound looked like this and I still was not worried about that. I proceeded to clean it a few times a day with Rivanol.
Ich ging sofort in die Apotheke, um ein paar Sachen zu kaufen, um sie zu behandeln. Ich konnte kein geeignetes Desinfektionsspray finden und wollte keinen 70% igen Alkohol verwenden. Wäre wirklich dumm gewesen das zu benutzen, es sei denn man liebt Schmerzen. Also gab mir die Frau in der Apotheke Rivanol, von dem ich noch nie gehört hatte. Es ist eine gelbe antiseptische Flüssigkeit, die wohl früher viel verwendet wurde...vor Jahrzenten?
Ich rasierte mein Bein so gut wie möglich, entfernte die abgestorbene Haut und fing an, Rivanol aufzutragen. Es tat überhaupt nicht weh und sah immer noch nicht schlecht aus. Es gab auch eine kleine Blase aus dem Auspuff des anderen Rollers, die auch nicht weh tat, also dachte ich, es ist alles gut. Fall abgeschlossen.
Am nächsten Tag sah die Wunde so aus und ich war immer noch nicht besorgt darüber. Ich fuhr damit fort, es einige Male am Tag mit Rivanol zu reinigen.
But then, yesterday evening when checked it again it looked a bit weird. There was a lot of hard slough on it and it was starting to get red on the edges.
I started to worry about it and went to the doctor again. They then told me that there is a small infection and that it was a good idea to come in and get it professionally treated.
Aber dann, gestern Abend, als ich es noch einmal überprüfte, sah es ein bisschen komisch aus. Es war viel harter Schorf darauf und es fing an, an den Rändern rot zu werden.
Ich machte mir langsam Sorgen und ging wieder zum Arzt. Sie sagten mir dann, dass es eine kleine Infektion gibt und dass es eine gute Idee sei, hereinzukommen und sie professionell behandeln zu lassen.
They tried to remove all the slough for about 30mins without success. I started to sweat and realized that I´m an idiot. I should have gone to the doctor straight away.
After the cleaning process it looked like this.
Sie versuchten, den ganzen Schorf für ungefähr 30 Minuten zu entfernen, ohne Erfolg. Ich fing an zu schwitzen und merkte, dass ich ein Idiot bin. Ich hätte sofort zum Arzt gehen sollen.
Nach dem Reinigungsprozess sah es so aus.
After the cleaning process they applied a Hydroactive Gel called DuoDerm which is used for necrotic wounds. They also put a foam pad on top of it and I now have to let this on until monday. After they take it off the wound hopefully can heal properly.
Nach dem Reinigungsprozess trugen sie ein Hydroactive Gel namens DuoDerm auf, das für nekrotische Wunden verwendet wird. Sie haben auch ein Schaumpolster draufgelegt und ich muss es jetzt bis Montag einwirken lassen. Nachdem sie es entfernt haben, kann die Wunde hoffentlich richtig heilen.
Ok, so I learned my lesson.
This is a advise for you: Don´t be that stupid and think you can treat a wound like this on your own but go to a doctor and let him do it.
Ok, ich habe meine Lektion gelernt.
Dies ist ein Rat für euch: Seid nicht so dumm wie ich und denkt ihr könnt eine Wunde wie diese selbst behandeln, sondern geht zu einem Arzt und lasst ihn das tun.

Gute Besserung Benni, ruh dich aus. War damals bei Salima auch so mit dem Dengue Fieber, wir dachten nicht dass es das sein könnte, aber wollten noch nicht ins Krankenhaus. Dann sind wir doch hin und keinen Moment zu früh...
Definitiv, wird wohl ne Woche dauern bis ich wieder ins Wasser kann. Vom dengue bin ich ja zum Glück bisher verschont geblieben. Hoffe euch geht’s gut in Ubud.

Geht bald los, sagt das Gefühl. Vielleicht noch 1-2 Tage..... Ach ja, hatte damals in Fiji auch eine Wundbrand von den Moskito Stichen bekommen. Es hat sich ausgebreitet und wollte nicht mehr ohne antibiotika heilen, mir wäre sonst die Beine abgefault. Schon krass, aber so ist es eben- wir "Weishäuter" sind von den Genen hier nicht gemacht, da kann uns Kleinigkeiten schon Probleme machen. Wie die eingeborenen im Regenwald und da kommen "Moderne" Menschen und schwubs sterben die Einehimischen wegen den KRankheiten.
