"Looking at me in the Mirror"

in #life7 years ago

After having gone through a not very pleasant or perhaps disastrous situation for our life, no matter in the field that has happened we usually feel extremely bad, I would even dare say that sometimes we feel miserable. In those moments we feel that there is something wrong in us but we do not know what and we begin to ask ourselves questions a little strong like: "What is the meaning of my life?" "Why do I live? "What am I for in this world?" "What good is life if we are all going to die?" Even falling into what we know as an existential crisis.

Some time ago I had the knowledge of why these moments of confusion often occur in the lives of all human beings and I had the desire to share it with you. So, here they have it!

It is not uncommon for us to have these kinds of confusions and almost always that we go through them we find ourselves in front of the mirror, searching and searching for our self-concept. But what is self-concept? According to an investigation by the AMIGO Foundation of Valencia, Venezuela: "It is to answer the question of who I am, the awareness that I have of myself, the identity that sets me apart from others."

One of the first thinkers who gave a little understanding of this, was "Descartes" when referring to himself saying: "I think, therefore I am." Also, "William James", one of the first researchers to study self-esteem, says that self-concept can be divided into 3 parts: material, social and personal, which would then be perfected and left as follows :

A) I Personal: What I judge of myself, my personality, my intelligence

B) Body Self: If I am in agreement with my body (my eyes, my ears, etc.)

C) I Social: The opinion expressed by others.

D) I material: What I have, or what I acquire.

Starting from self-concept, we find Self-esteem, which is nothing more than: "The valuation I make of my self-concept". In other words, it is the level of acceptance or rejection I have of myself, the ability to value ourselves, knowing that we are important and that others care about us. Feeling special and having the confidence that we can with the life and the obstacles that appear to us.

When I speak of the level of rejection we have of ourselves I refer to low self-esteem, which is defined as: "the difficulty that the person has to feel valuable in the depths of himself, and therefore worthy of being loved by others ."

Now, the moments of confusion that I mentioned at the beginning begin when we have to face the difficult parts of our life and that is where Self-esteem plays a very important role because it influences:

A) Our personal balance: If we take care of ourselves, if we set goals.

B) Our relationship with others: If we have a proper Self-esteem we will create "Positive" relationships, we will transmit security. But if not, we will isolate ourselves and we will not be sure of our actions, which will lead us to act as others will.

C) Our decisions in life: If we make mistakes and choose without taking into account our resources, interests and values, we are likely to fall into frustration.

D) Own experience: If I value myself I will open myself to new and better experiences, to communicate, to creativity, to take on new challenges, unlike if I do not value myself I will not take on new challenges because I will believe that I can not with them.

And the moment that we are in front of that mirror seeing our interior, which will decide if we give up and look down or if we lift and slowly walk towards victory ... It will be the self-esteem we have, "the valuation we have of our selfconcept".

What I mean is that we must work on self-esteem to be less insecure, to save costumes, to be original and to perceive reality better. So when we face the adversities of life (which I know we will always stumble over) we can humbly learn each of the lessons they teach us and in a splendid way smile because we came out “Victorious”!
