What sounds extremely wrong, but is actually correct?

So, imagine a fire.

Now, the first thing you’d do is find the nearest source of water, and douse the flames, right?

Think again.

Water is not a very effective way to put out a fire, despite what people and books tell us.

There are various kinds of fires. I will list four:

Class A fires result from ordinary flammable materials, like paper and wood.
Class B fires result from flammable liquid, greases, and gases.
Class C fires result from electrical equipment (wires and electrical fires)
Class D fires result from combustible metals (sodium, magnesium, etc.)
Now, water will effectively extinguish Class A fires. It’s the best solution for those flames.

However, the other classes require something else:

Class B? Oops, you just spread its fuel!

Class C? Zzzaaaap! You just got an electric shock!

Class D? God damn… you fueled the fire!

So, next time a fire happens, take a minute to stop. Of course, first call the fire department. They’ll know how to handle the fire.

Think about whether it’s caused by wood, grease, wires, or metals. React accordingly. The last thing you want is to unwittingly open up a can of worms — especially in life-threatening situations like this.

Or, you could take some fire prevention steps, so this won’t happen in the first place, but life happens.

Stay safe!
