Use It Up, Wear it Out, Make it Do, or Do Without

in #life7 years ago (edited)

So I see a perfectly good dresser just thrown out , not left out on a curb for someone else to pick up. It was thrown into a dumpster which just struck me as damn wasteful. People are lazy or overactive in my society and there are few in the middle it seems. It's like either the super woman who is jogging 3 miles at 5 in the morning or someone who just rides the walmart carts cause they stopped caring about themselves. Anyways, there is a disconnect with a lot who just can't take a few minutes to pass it on to someone else or not waste pounds of food just because of apathy.

My grandmother used to always sew socks with a tear and save jars to use for pickling or storage, she reused and created crafts out of what others would just toss without a second glance. I remember as a child throwing away or wasting something and her telling me and instilling in me an important lesson of being frugal and not just tossing things that can be repurposed.

She simply said, "Don't throw that out, it's not used up and you need to realize that there are times in life when you will realize the importance of what I am telling you." She said in a happy voice, "Use it up , wear it out, make it do or do without!"
My Grandmother was very right and now I find myself collecting a few jars to do as she did.

I love throwing food to waste. I love it so much I try to throw away at least 50% of everything I buy. It's a very costly passion.

Yes satire.

We throw away so much good stuff. Food is the worst.

agreed, sometimes you have to be a verbal ninja to get your point across ;)

I hate throwing away food. Thats one of my biggest "no-nos". Smh breaks my heart knowning theres so many hungry people in the world. Stay blessed

that's the worst one for me too, you too Yogi :)

Wise woman your grandmother
..my mom said waste not want not. We also repurpose like crazy.

feels good to do it as well imho, be more conscious in general

Love this philosophy so much that I threw away people in my life, business, home, society, and what not to some degree...
...to find myself living in the woods waking up in the middle of nature with just what I need with me in my backpack.
Have a great love and appreciate of such message and understanding.

One of my biggest 'hates' of the decadent west. I have always hated it.

I'm very functional, in regard to material 'stuff' -
I just don't see the point of throwing away thing, if they possess utility.

It has benefits. - I don't have smartphone for example -
I'm at the computer using the function of it, or away from it, without the nagging voice in my pocket, demanding my attention.....

Life is niiiice that way.

Wise woman Mary! Senior citizens have wisdom because they have gone through life longer than us.

They also love peppermints.

lol, peppermints! Actually that is rather true

Very well said @battleaxe. In a lot of cases it is bad enough that we feel we need these things in the first place never mind the need to replace them when they are still perfectly usable and the disregard we have for waste when we throw them away as well as the disregard we have for others who might be in a position to use them when we are not.

thank you very much, ...I found Waldo on Blockchain
