What We Have Been Doing The Last Few Days? If You Guessed Working On The Small House. You Are Right!

in #life7 years ago

We have been working on trying to figure out how to deal with finding a cheap bathtub and then making it work for us. We found a deal on a bathtub and the problem was we needed a right-hand drain but all that was left was left-hand drains. For 25 bucks we would figure out how to make it work. We had a few ideas but something would never pan out on that so we would have to go back to the drawing board and think of other ideas. We thought this might work. There was going to be beds that were built in on the other side of the wall and it would not work it would be hard to access a plumbing panel there.

There was only one other way that we could do this and it was going to be fun to cover the plumbing and still give is access to it if something broke or something needed replacing. So it was fun trying to get it all figured out, we are trying to get this done ASAP as spring is right around the corner and we still have AirCrete houses to get started on. So this is what we did!

So we came up with putting the sink under the window and the tub all the way against the other wall. That would give us access to the plumbing but we had other things to figure out. How were we going to hide the plumbing and still get to it if we needed to? We got to thinking and it would be nice to be able to use this space as a cabinet for towels and washcloths and other things we would have in the bathroom.

It was back to how to have access to the plumbing. Well, we had some old train tables we had built when the grandkids were into Thomas The Tank Engine, they were 4x4 ft square and were about 3 feet tall. We really did not have a use for them now as they outgrew Thomas and Friends and moved on to other things. We did not want to spend money on lumber when we could reuse those and we did not have a choice as we were broke.LOL.

So we started measuring took the legs off the tables so we had some 2x4's to use and we cut the tables into smaller squares and made a box.

We had to rip some of the 2x4's in half to use on this as we did not want it to weigh a ton and a half. The cutouts are where the drain pipes and the 2x4 come out for the tub support. Here is what it looked like when we were just about done and we were seeing if everything somewhat fit right.

The box in front of the tub will be where the valve body and the showerhead come out for the tub and the cabinet will be able to slide in and out for us to get to anything behind it if necessary. If you remember or know how the showers were done on the old claw foot tubs then you have an idea of where we are going with this, if not watch for the post later about how it is done and you will see it. The water heaters should be to us in a couple of days and we can get the plumbing finished and move on to others things that we need to finish. All the drains are done as we spent the better part of a day under the small house getting that done. Sorry for the quality of the pictures my old cell phone does not do very good pics. The videos are a little better but not much. I am trying to get another camera as mine decided not to work for me anymore.

@papa-pepper is having a giveaway camera, you might check it out.

I saw that and made a post about it. I am hoping I win. Will make better pictures and videos for me to post. I hope before we start with AirCrete I have a better camera.

That is great! Putting in the hard work always pays off. The hot water will be worth it ! I am alittle bit jealous of your tub though!

Because it was so cheap or my fine workmanship of installing it. LOL

Always a bit of jickerypokery when you are on a budget isn't there?! Great effort and I'm sure the hot water will be much appreciated when it flows.

There is not a little going on here but a lot of it happening. The one thing I will not jickerypoke is with the electric.

A wise decision. Getting wet is one thing, getting electrocuted is another thing entirely.
Combining the two is especially to be avoided.

Looks like the solution is going to work out well. Great job re-configuring the layout to make everything work!

Thanks it took us a little to get it figured out but it is going to work nicely I hope.

I’m excited to see pictures! What I’ve found is that if there’s something you have to figure out how to do, even if there’s just no way to do it, you do it anyway because you have to. Glad you figured out how to get your ‘have-to’ done!

Thanks! There has been a lot of "have to" with this adventure. If it was easy everyone would be doing it right? LOL.

good luck on the house building adventure... glad to nominate this for an ocd-resteem :)

Thank You! Have a great day!

And at the end of it all, that feeling of fulfilment makes it even special and you appreciate you ingenuity more when you sit back and grab a look at the work of your hands. good job

Yes, it does! Knowing you thought of that idea and you made it work is a great satisfaction.

When it doesn’t fit perfectly, there is always another way to put a spin on it. Way to go. Things are starting to come together very nicely. Good idea with the slide in box. 🐓🐓

Thanks! There was not any other way I could figure out that make it work. Got tankless water heaters in yesterday, finally! They will be going in soon, along with the rest of the plumbing. The finish line is closer, just in time to start another project. LOL.
